I think it's the passion that drives the poem, and the reader can tell. A poem, like a work of art, is different to everyone, so each person can take something that they relate to out of a poem. An author puts emotion into the poem, and people just pull it out in different ways.

the rhythm-how it sounds

complex expression, having something so simple yet so complex.

i think it is choice of words.

the emotion...how some pours their emotions into a poem like a painter pours his heart and soul out into a single peice of artwork.my poems are romantic,but deal with the loss of a loved one.

When people just write,
when the words are just flowing off their tongues,
Like a frizbe in the sky.
A rhythm,
a vibe,
a true compassion to the soul.
A freedom of thought that stands out among the greats.
A greatness in me,
a greatness in you.

Using the right words in the right way. Clearing conveying the main idea of the poem.

Words and the ability to use them, first and foremost. Having a broad vocabulary is very helpful as well. Creativity and Artistry is a must. Also, rhyme, cadence, form, alliteration, allusion, metaphor, voice, mood, imagery...etc. All these things contribute to a beautiful poem.

in my opinion, what makes a poem beautiful is how it speaks to you, or how it touches or inspires you. poetry is something that u cant explain, and if you try, chances are SOMEONE will end up confused. don't try to write it or explain it, just let ur thought flow and create a beautiful poem. i'm personally attracted to poems with a lot of heart, and a lot of soul and vision. keep writing, and someone will definitely think its beautiful (=
