Position:Home>Poetry> Constructive criticism or not? Is it too sappy?

Question:There are a lot of us whose heart has been broken at least once. Sometimes we still dwell on it. I guess to lessen that dwelling a prose or two might help. Am I being to dramatic about it? Does it make sense at all? If it sucks, please say so.

STILL LOSING SLEEP

Why say you loved me
when it wasn't true?
Why promise things you
never meant to do?
Why tell me lies and
cause me all that pain?
And not just once but
time and time again.
The times I wept for you,
I felt such a big fool?
So why am I still
losing sleep over you?

There's an adage that says a broken heart makes for good writing.

I like how you wrote your poem by making it a question all through out. I like the irionic ending. It is also good rhyming.

I can relate to the poem with one of my past broken relationships. So, you might say that for some of us we know what it is like with feeling that way. That why sometimes poem touches people.

Being too dramatic? We all become dramatic one time on another, especially when someone breaks our heart. Poetry is about needing to purge our feelings and thoughts. And for readers, it's subjective - what might suck to others, might be well done to the rest.

I just hope you're not losing anymore sleep over it. Good job!

Did the writing help you? Be glad of pain because without it most of the poetry that has ever been written would not have been. Words and images in your mind are very therapeutic and communicating your thoughts clarifies your own feelings and helps others who read your work . Read other peoples poems and see if this is not so.
