Position:Home>Poetry> Would you care to read my favorite April poem?

Question:On this rainy first day of April, I'd like to share a beautiful poem by Ogden Nash.

Always Marry An April Girl

Praise the spells and bless the charms,
I found April in my arms,
April golden, April cloudy,
Gracious, cruel, tender, rowdy:
April soft in flowered languor,
April cold with sudden anger,
Ever changing, ever true--
I love April, I love you.

Now, THAT's a poem. And I'm not fooling.

thanks for sharing the poem Elaine....it is nice.....
and April and poetry reminds me two things...
one is Chaucer's first line of Canterbury Tales
'When that April with its showers soote'
the other, ofcourse, is Eliot
'April is the cruellest month'....first line of Wasteland...

You could have fooled me. Just kidding. Enjoy your April Fool's day.

After reading this, I must say I did enjoy it. Have never heard of the writter but do like the poem : ).

It is a poem...and a good one, at that...

This poem is new to me. It is wonderful. I can see why it's your favorite April poem. Hope you're fooled in a good way today!

I've never read any Ogden Nash, but he seems my kind of a writer. Witty, clever with words (I found April in my arms) and who makes rhyming seem effortless - (he rules the rhyme, not t'other way around).

Simple but satisfying

Loved it., but still love your work.

Dearly love Ogden Nash! Thank you for giving us this April poem!

that's a beautiful April poem the way you use the expressive language is so incredible very very good i loved that gracious tender poem.

That's a very nice poem. I can see why it's your favorite April poem. I like the metaphor in how the month of April is "Gracious, cruel, tender, rowdy...soft in flowered languor...cold with sudden anger, Ever changing..." is likened to his April girl. He accepts the good and the bad as should we all. Thanks for sharing.
