Clicking on your link, I was taken to Freedom's Plow by Langston Hughes. I hope this was the correct poem.

This poem is very relevant to today's times because...

1. we can always learn from history since history tends to repeat itself.

2. there are some very important truths imbedded in this poem that our leaders today seem to have forgotton. Our Constitutional guaranteed freedoms are being stripped from us one by one in the name of security. However, what we will end up with is neither our freedoms or security. It would do our leaders good to be reminded of these things spoken of in the eigth stanza....

A long time ago, but not too long ago, a man said:
ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL--
ENDOWED BY THEIR CREATOR
WITH CERTAIN UNALIENABLE RIGHTS--
AMONG THESE LIFE, LIBERTY
AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.
His name was Jefferson. There were slaves then,
But in their hearts the slaves believed him, too,
And silently too for granted
That what he said was also meant for them.
It was a long time ago,
But not so long ago at that, Lincoln said:
NO MAN IS GOOD ENOUGH
TO GOVERN ANOTHER MAN
WITHOUT THAT OTHER’S CONSENT.
There were slaves then, too,
But in their hearts the slaves knew
What he said must be meant for every human being-
Else it had no meaning for anyone.
Then a man said:
BETTER TO DIE FREE
THAN TO LIVE SLAVES
He was a colored man who had been a slave
But had run away to freedom.
And the slaves knew
What Frederick Douglass said was true.

It would also do good for the people of America to read this poem and be reminded of where we came from and of these truths and be warned of where we are headed if we don't wake up and get a handle on the political scene.

That is why I support Ron Paul for President. Yes! He is still in it. www.ronpaul2008.com

Hope this helps.
