Position:Home>Poetry> Is poetry in UK on a downward or upward trend right now?

Question:I noticed that not many questions get asked in poetry UK but I shouldn't assume demographic answers from a silly Yahoo website. But it inspired the question. Right now, the US has a lot of good poets. As i'm sure the UK has also, though i'm not familiar with them. Any recomendations for good contemporary UK poets? What is the public sentiment in UK towards poetry right now? What dierction is it going? Thanks

I think it's on the up.
I keep getting into drunken debates with various people about Milton, Spencer, Blakey-boy, Shakey and Dylan Thomas.

Some drunk letch even recited one of shakeys sonnets for me... Hazzar?

edit: however, i know very little about contemporary poets except for Carrol Ann [havisham] Duffy, and only because i had to study the psycho spinster for GCSE.

How can someone judge the rate of poetry on a country? Or on a geographical scale? How can the rate of poetry be rated at all?

Poetry is another world, in which every pause, every space, every full stop and word is another meaning. In which you can write you're darkest secrets to the world and never have their meanings unearthed and revealed. Poetry is love, hate, inspiration and laughter, it is all these things and so much more.

To sit on a hill and lay back, and feel the wind on you're skin and hear the birds sing.... Poetry.

The dark and horrible surprise that you get when the lights go out and you're all alone, with nobody to tell you its alright..... Poetry.

Poetry lives in song, writing, drawings, poetry for me is like being an artist with words.

No, I do not believe that poetry in the UK is on a downward trend, nor an upward trend. Poetry is poetry, and it lives forever, because to write you're memories on a piece of paper in such a manner that it is beautiful keeps those moments and memories there forever. Even if the paper is burned.
