Question Home

Position:Home>Poetry> A great Beatles song for poetry class?

Question:I want to use Beatles lyrics for a poem to read for a class. It must be appropriate for children. So far I have found "I will","In my life" and "Across the Universe." I don't want any of the nonsense ones (Yellow Sub, ObLaDi,Silver Hammer), but something semi-deep and beautiful. (Sorry, I love Happiness is a Warm Gun, but that won't work here!)

Something, orYesterday

I want to hold your hand

I love Eleanor Rigby!
Hey Jude, revolution, Oh! Darling,
Black Bird, Can't buy me love, here comes the sun, are probably the best ones even for really younger kids, pretty easy to identify emotionally with, and still safe, and sweet.

There is really many songs like that to choose from.

Blackbird is very symbolic. "A Day in the Life" could also work well. "Eleanor Rigby" is full of symbolism too...

Just a few off the top of my head.
