Question:Hidden Truths

Why are you alone?
Can you not please anyone?
Are you not good enough?
Why do you lay awake alone in bed at night?
Why is it that you cry alone?

She stares in the mirror
asking questions of herself
for which she has no answer.
She peers at the distorted
version of her true self
helpless as the tears roll down her cheeks.

She adorns her lips with bright color.
Wipes the tears from her eyes.
Fixes her hair, her clothes, her smile.
She steps out into the world alone
and hides her pain away.
Only her eyes giving glimpses of her sorrow
to those who never care to look.

I can see this pathetic young creature in front of her mirror asking herself these questions. I like the change to a second person recording what she does next. Whoever this lonely girl is she is still brave enough to face the world which seems to shun her, hoping against hope that someone will notice her.

Yes, I liked this.

I think it'd be better without the first stanza...it kinda takes away from the last two. Otherwise, I really do like it.

Beautiful poem.I like the way you express the character in your poem... she sounds so desperate yet so sad.I LOVED IT!!!

I wish that more questions were answered but it is quite well written.
