Position:Home>Poetry> Do you like to write haikus?

Question:The thing about haikus is that they rely on being written in a language that uses pictograms. Poetry could be defined as the creation of something with multiple layers of meaning. The reason that haikus can be powerful is that pictograms (ie the Japanese/Chinese symbols traditionally used) don't have a 'sound' value as such - for example, the symbol interpreted as 'tiger' might be a symbol which cobines elements such as 'fierce', 'stripey' and 'fast'. They are many symbols for each word - so a great poet will pick the ones which are the most approparite and add the most meaning.

English just can't do it - haikus can be a good way to teach kids about syllables, but they don't make for great poetry in English.

So no, I don't like to write haikus. Or, in other words:

I love writeing and poetry and im fairly good at haikus... but i cant get my true feelngs out in a haiku... its traditionaly for nature.. so if im feeling natury ill write hiakus ushaly im not :/

I don't like boundaries when writing so I don't really enjoy writing them, but I love reading them. I think it's because I am not very good at one, clever ones fascinate me.
