Hai'ku is complicated
For Wiki Wiki

Of course he will, but he will not give you the satisfaction of letting you know. My advice to whomever wishes to know the deeper meaning of this haiku is this; if you can't get the nuances, go back to the old answers.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: In my experience, the encyclopedia, and now Wikipedia, serve as fine resources for high-school students researching their 3000-word essays on Ghandi, for crossword-puzzle enthusiasts, and for those who wish to cram as many bits & pieces of knowledge as they possibly can into their minds, so as to avoid the real work of ever achieving any true wisdom or artistry. It does not, however, serve the artist well; it only bungs him up, constipates him, and devours his time like a cancer. Instead I choose--and would recommend that all would-be artists, writers and poets choose--to keep flinging their nets into the ocean of creativity with furious strength and joyful abandon. One of us is bound to catch a fish some day!

I won't touch that dial!

Wikipedia is NOT the answer, this time!!!!!!!!

Have him net the word...Basho....this is an OLD Japanese Master of Haiku. Along with this man's Haiku and bio, he will find other Masters' works.
He will find the evolution of Haiku.
I've seen as few as 14 syllables and as many as 21 in Haiku.

16th century Haiku Masters....NOT the 21st century kind.
Want me to tell him the nuances? And rules? For true Japanese Haiku?

Extremely clever haiku. And I like Alobar's response as well.
