Question:First Night on Mars

We have recited our poems
in the communal dome
to the sweet sounds
of Dondi’s strings.

The thin atmosphere is frigid
beyond human limits
but my dome is warm
and I feel unbound by gravity.

The sons of Ares
salute each other in the night
Phobus heading toward the East
and Deimos heading west.

No black pollution hides the heavens
and I can see the stars
here, in our virgin home.
I will finally sleep in peace.

I like this, and I get to dust off my ancient 1964 Gibson J-45 or maybe the 64 Fender Stratocaster, depending on what we want to hear, and whether we want them to hear it back on Earth. I hope there is a store up there that sells picks and strings. I tend to wear them out.

Dang, E! This is the very best Mars poem yet!

Just hope Dondi don't break a string. It's a long way to Musicians Friend...

Very nice! I like the concrete imagery. It's like reading Bradbury's 'Martian Chronicles'--It has that feel.

This is a very cool poem. I liked TDs answer. Good work.

I'd have to agree with T.D. on this one. Can't wait to join you all on planet.

oh Wonderful!!!
and the phrase 'virgin home' is just brilliant!

It's awesome. I love always your Mars Poems, but this is superb. I can almost see Dondi playing a ditty on his strings while all the poets engage in poetic revelry as they dance, sing, and recite to the music. Great image and wonderfully written poem.

Yes, me likes! I long for Mars and the crystal clear heavens ...
