Position:Home>Poetry> Do you ever write poetry as a means of survival ?

Question:Absolutely , I do. It is a matter of self expression of feeling that would otherwise be repressed and deadly. Most of the poetry I write is in my journal for my eyes only. I also draw but my main inspiration for that is what i dream. What i feel inside is in my poetry. How i experience the world is in my poetry.

When I feel passion in some way, good or bad, I have to get it out or else it'll build up inside me and...rot me from the inside out...

no. that'd be suicidal if you mean writing poetry books to earn a living selling books. few people spend money on or read poetry books.

Yes. Sometimes writing helps me cope and survive. It's probably saved my life a time or two. Writing provides an outlet for feelings which otherwise might build up and bring me to the point of wanting to take some unhealthy actions. It can be very therapeutic and is a very healthy way to cope with your emotions and thoughts. Even if you don't share what you write it is a wonderful thing to do, especially if you are feeling really depressed etc.

No. I write poetry to define myself and to try to give a rough contour to the intangibles in life. without poetry, I wouldn't go mad, but I would feel a sense of overflowing within my brain.

yes you need to get ur emotions and feelings out somehow, writing, in the form of poetry, diary, stories, letters help sooo much, it gives you some sort of peace of mind even though you didnt tell it to anyone but yourself. It is a way of letting go, letting out, etc etc. It is therapy.

For an emotional outlet yes. For financial survival.....I wish.

No , not because I wouldn't want to but because I don't have what it takes to do it but i know someone who is very talented at it

I have not been writing for quite awhile, though I have been published and many of my works are on-line and even translated into foreign languages.

Now, I need to clean out the cobwebs and write. I want to get rid of the stress that has me always struggling.

So, yes, I write. I write to live.
