Position:Home>Poetry> Do you proof read?

Question:I do not. Which is why my poems seem choppy and there are spelling errors ever now and again. If you do how many times do you proof read?

I do but then again it often does not seem like it as the writer is too involved. Outside editing is the best, especially someone with a track record. Speaking of, do you mean your poems "are" choppy or are not? I have never seen a "seem" choppy sea for example. lol

I always proof read my articles, letters, etc. a few times. If I have time, I have one of my friend's do it...because sometimes I can look right over a mistake and not catch it when he/she can.

Always. at least once. nothing worse than a spelling error in a good poem/letter.

Actually, I not only proof-read my materials intended for submissions, but I have a couple others whom I trust proof-read my materials.
Proof-reading is a definite in the writing industry.
Trusting the individuals you have proof-read your materials is also an absolute. Don't ever give your materials to just anyone...get someone who will read them for you on a consistent basis after having them sign a contract that all submissions to them are your sole property and that they will not reproduce, take, steal or use for their own benefits.
Copywrite your stuff. Simple and cheap way is to send the stuff to yourself...never open the envelopes and place them in a safe deposit box or somewhere safe.
A more expensive way is to register them as yours through the writer's guild.
They accept member submissions and non-member submissions. Normally it's a ten year...then re-submit.
Good luck and good writing.
PS...don't do e-books and e-line's. People steal others work that way every day. Nothing is safe online. Cut and paste is simple, fast and easy.

"Spell Check" will resolve your spelling problems. If you do not have it, it can be downloaded as a free download from Spell Check .

Proof reading is one of the liberties which those who comment on poems take.

One of the best proof readers is activated when you type your poem into Microsoft Word first. Though not foolproof is is a big help. Just copy and paste your poem after it is completed.

Another way is to post your poem privately to someone who you can trust, then have them return it to you after it has been proof read.

Occasionally I proof rad. But when I bloop I sure blop. Usually when the send/submit button is a "point of no return" type (non edit) Hoppy Bic your poems are so good I don't even check your spellin'. Don't get all precious on us now - it is the message and not the medium that matters.....mmmm.

i always proofread but i rarely find any errors, however i let sum one else proofread and they always find errors. . .

it depends somtimes i write a poem in one sitting and other times i revise it a hundred times.

I proof read my poems dozens of times, until I feel that it is right. Until it flows nicely.

Yes,I do as I am quite the perfectionist.

I proof read about four or five times because I'm a grammar snob. I can't help it.
