Here's what I do, I make my first 1-4 lines completely mediocre and below my skill level, this way i feel confident that i can write more. Next i just write the rest of the poem. After, if i like the original ideas behind my first 1-4 lines, i revise them and make them better. If i don't like the ideas, i just delete the stanza.

once you get into writing the lyrics and they start coming together, try putting the first part at the end and start again.

First start with the 5th and 6th lines then go back to the beginning.........

I write down lines that pop into my head and look at them. If I can come up with another line that makes sense and goes with the first line I can go on from there. Sometimes it takes a couple or four times to get started. Like gunning the engine of a race car before you take off. Once you get the gas you in the race to finish. Sometimes it's a word that starts in all, or a phrase, a description like, " golden, like butter on a biscuit cloud." I have this line in one of my poems. I hope this helps.

It all depends on how u write

Do you freewrite (write things off the top of ur head) if u do just write the first thing that comes to ur mind

If you spend more time trying to perfect ur work take the time to describe exactly what it is that you want to say. Take it from there and then rewrite until it sounds the way u imagined

The thing I always do when writing poems is to listen to inspiring music.
It's helps me.
