Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The other night upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there, He wasn't there again today, Oh how I wish he would go away. the first person, is WRONG!! that is not the whole thing!!! THIS IS THE WHOLE THING!!: Glenn Miller: Hello there, Texas, whatcha say? Are you whistling in the dark just to scare the ghost away? Tex Beneke: I know there’s something following me that I can’t see Someone sure laid an awful hex on me! Glenn Miller: A hex? Ah, Tex, that’s pretty far-fetched. Man, I’d say you’re just a little bit tetched! Tex Beneke: You’d got a load of what I saw last night You’d pass the Yankee Clipper on its maiden flight! Last night I saw upon the stair A little man who wasn’t there He wasn’t there again today Oh, how I wish he’d go away... When I came home last night at three The man was waiting there for me But when I looked around the hall I couldn’t see him there at all! Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more! Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door... (slam!) Last night I saw upon the stair A little man who wasn’t there He wasn’t there again today Oh, how I wish he’d go away! hope i helped! =) (oh, and by the way, i like that poem! (or @ least, the part u had! i didnt read the rest of it, but it sounds cool!!!!) That's the whole thing...worded a tad different from the original..But thats all there is to it.. lol "The other night upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there, He wasn't there again today, Oh how I wish he would go away." The rest of this poem is:- Two dead men got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other. One was blind and the other couldn’t see. A blind man went to see fair play. A paralyzed donkey lumbering past. Kicked the blind man in the eye. Knocked him over the red barn. Into a dry ditch that drowned them all. A deaf policeman heard the noise And came to arrest the two dead men. If you don’t believe this story’s true, Ask the blind man, he saw it too! Thank You That's a short poem by Hughes Mearns (1900? I'm not sure) As I was going up the stair I saw a man who wasn’t there He wasn’t there again today I wish, I wish, he’d stay away. ...but there's a song adaptation (1939) "The little man who wasn't there" by Harold Adamson, Last night I saw upon the stair A little man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today Oh, how I wish he'd go away When I came home last night at three The man was waiting there for me But when I looked around the hall I couldn't see him there at all Go away, go away Don't you come back any more Go away, go away And please don't slam the door Slam the door!
