Position:Home>Poetry> What do you do when you're blocked?Question:Write a poem! This poem is more of an exercise. I wanted to write, but I didn't know what to write. This is an alphabet poem, where each line begins with the next letter of the alphabet. This is mostly for enjoyment, I thought it was time I shared a poem. Attachment to a floor begins with the first touch of cushy carpeting doused with lilac hues Enclosing romance for dust mites who greatly fear the vacuum’s hepa-filter In love with each fiber jutting here and there Knowing this love is forbidden— maddening truth— Nails glide over the softness Pleasing the senses quadrilaterally Requiring scrubbing to keep texture perfect under the feet Vast light causes the withering of color X times Your love can zap the color from me too Note: the X is the Roman numeral for ten in this poem. This is clever and funny. In spite of the stricture of the alphabetical sequence, the poem flows marvelously along. Even stretching a bit to get the problematic 'Q' in there doesn't change that. [I've never had the pleasure of my senses pleased quadrilaterally, but I'm open to experiencing it.] I found the whole thing wonderful. You've got just the right blend of lyricism with absurdity. If this was the side road you took to get unblocked, it may have been a better route than the highway. if your blocked your blocked, I got kicked out of starbucks for writing poetry, they didnt like me pinning it up, not upbeat enough, im not emo, but what they were looking for is too cheesy and overdone. Not a bad attempt in using the alphabet. Mental blocks are quite common in poets. Have some time off and do something else for a while. Take notes of things that you would like to write about while you are on your break. You will return with ideas tumbling out of your mind. Hey, this is a good poem for an alphabet poem. I like it. I usually go for a walk and do something else then come back abd try it again. |
