Question:Why Can't I Be President?

I was born on this land
Grew to a man
Took my own stand
And fought for this land
So why can't I be president?

I can't open my door
Without seeing the poor
What is in store?
What's with this war?
Why can't I be president?

I won't change positions
Forsake transitions
I'll complete my missions
Always listen
So why can't I be president?

No recessions or stress
No stained blue dress
No stocks in a mess
No working for less
Why can't I be president?

No increasing the tax
So the rich can stay fat
As our nation falls flat
No giving steak to fat cats
Well..why can't I be president?

Because you apparently don't understand a capitalistic system that is entirely responsible for the greatness of this nation. A poor man never created a job. The war? We make a mistake when we consider the cost of winning it without thought to the cost of NOT winning it. Those are just two of the reasons you can't be president. Plus, of course, you're not even a candidate. But then, you only ask metaphorically why you can't be president, so to the direct question of the poem, It's a poem - doesn't have to be realistic - and isn't.

Good poem. You can't be President because you say, "I won't change positions." A President must be able to survey a situation and change with the times, otherwise, he's a dinosaur. You also need to be careful of the people you associate with or you may be accused of not having enough good judgment to lead this great country.

i have no degree, but sounds like to me, poems are thoguhts , that give you away like you did today

it makes a statement and i applaud you for asking the question. alot of americans who talk crap , do just that. They don't stand up for what they believe in. They'd rather just let these fat cats run them over and they sit back and believe their lies. I understand what you are saying with the line " i won't change postions " i won't either. i'm a proud American and i'd die for my country. i did'nt enlist for the war, but if they pulled my number i'd go proudly. i'd be scared , but i'd go.
Everything you said is true , this country is going to crap. The funny thing is that European investers own more of this country than we do.

You know, SFR, I gave you crap once, about whether or not you should try to get published. I hadn't read any of your poems, but I said that it's notoriously difficult to get poetry published...I still hold to that statement, but your poetry has surprised me.

Have you considered doing chapbooks with a small press?

I truly got the stain on the blue dress (Monica Lewinsky)!!! You really pulled some good shots on this one!! Your poetry continues to evolve and grow. You are so talented. There are people who post poetry on here and waste others time. You are a true poet!!
