Position:Home>Poetry> I'm not a poet?

Question:Hello to all. We are mimicking William Blake's idea of innocence in his book, in case that matters. I'm writing a poem about my lack of understanding of the concept of death that I underwent as a child. I don't exactly what to write. I wanted to write me as a child at a funeral looking into the coffin in confusion. I have no idea how to start it out or how to let my innocence of myself as a child shine through.

Any ideas of what my first couple of lines could be?

You're a little kid shaking your mother's dress, asking why grandpa is asleep in that box, when everyone has come to see him.

Okay. You're at the funeral and you drop your toy (something that will roll away, such as a yoyo) and you go chasing it. Then, you bump into the cofin. It falls off of the table thing, the body falls out and everyone looks and sees you standing by the horrible incident.

Why is she sleeping in such a funny bed?
She's so quiet. They say that she is dead.
But I don't know what to think about that.
Just last week in the kitchen we sat .......

Just to get you started here's something.

I look into the box
I don't understand
Why isn't he moving mama?
Daddy, I'm scared
