Those other poems sounds good, BUT I don't think they're age appropiate. I would personally reccomend that you choose something by famed child poet, Shel Silverstein.

"Motto" by Langston Hughes is one of my favorite poems:

I play it cool and dig all jive.
That's the reason I stay alive.
My motto as I live and learn
Is dig and be dug in return.

One of the most culturally significant American poems of the 20th century is "Howl" by Allen Ginsberg. That's the one that starts;

"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by
madness, starving hysterical naked,
dragging themselves through the negr0 streets at dawn
looking for an angry fix,"

If you read that poem out, I guarantee you, you're teachers will be blown away!

I know I would be.
