Position:Home>Poetry> Can someone help me rewrite a verse from The Rubaiyat?

Question:I have to take a verse from The Rubaiyat and rewrite it in modern, informal English, still using aaba rhyme scheme, quatrains, and iambic pentameter.

I want to do number 71:

"The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it."

Thanks :)

Wow, normally I wouldn't even attempt to say this but, why is your teacher having you do this after all, a poets work is there's to set in concrete...??

I got from this...

"Pushing pens, they linger still
writing beyond the writers will
If by chance it ever pause
Weeping audience is still..."

Now, this being from the top of my head...please use my name if you present it in school......~Shad~

I would not presume to alter one of the finest and most famous verses in the English language. Sorry.
