Shakespeare's talking about the futility of life; "brief candle", this is a reference to human existence. He is saying that life is so often misconceived, viewed from obscure perspectives "tale told by an idiot", this could also be viewed as a political statement.
"Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." Think about this line in the context of your own life, how much of what you said today can you even remember?
On your death bed, how much of what has happened in your life will matter to you?
This is what Shakespeare's talking about, and he has a right to; his work has certainly signified something!
