Position:Home>Philosophy> Is a man who aims to make as much money in life, a fool?

Question: Is a man who aims to make as much money in life, a fool!?
Well, the majority of people would say so!.
But why!? This man at least has an aim in life!. It keeps him occupied, and often it requires hard work and determination to reach!.
Often, to make a great deal of money, you must have a good mind on you!.!.!. So why is this man a fool!?

If a man chooses a job he hates paying £200,000 a year, over a job he enjoys paying £22,000 a year!.!.!. Why mock him!? Why jump to conclusions that he is a fool!?
He might very well have in mind, that he would rather an early retirement and enjoy life a bit later on!.!.!. Yes, this comes at a cost (doing a job you hate), but he has an aim!.
He might want to leave his family a large sum of money when he's gone!.!.!. At least he has an aim, right!?

If, at 75 say, he is dying in his mansion, overlooking the bay!.!.!. He can smile, knowing he made it in life!. If this is his version of 'making it' in life, does it make him a fool, just because you don't agree!?

Having an aim in life to just 'have a family and a job you enjoy' seems boring to me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You know what you are talking about!. It is all too obvious!. It is obvious to all sensible people that excess in anything is bad, and could lead to unwanted outcomes, but since you have asked this question, you must have a good reason asking … and this is what makes all the difference!.

Why would I for instance come here and write in answers all that I already know, obviously!. I have my good reason doing this, as when I tell someone what I know myself more things come to my head, and make me know better what I already knew better - the more I tell the more I know!. Besides, if all that I know or need to know were for myself alone then much of what know would not make any good sense!. I could go for instance in the middle of some wilderness to air my views there, into nothingness, to shout my head off!. I will go mad for no good end!.

If this were the case with knowledge then why would people pursue to make money for no good purpose other than making money!? I see that this could be done!. There are instances of people making money sake, piling up high selling nothing cheap, hoarding wealth, and then dying without every spending a penny, leaving all to greedy heirs, for fight over, and to squander lavishly without a care or concern as what money could really mean in the society, life blood, result of hard work, labour of bodies and minds sweating and grunting together!.

Money is the lifeblood of every economy, national international or personal!. Money is the common language by which human needs are spoken, desires met, and abilities interpreted!. Money is the hoop in the chain that make the world go round, without money, and the ones to produce, channel its flow, regulate its distribution everything in life, in the world, would fall apart!.

However, I am in principle against someone who aims to make just as much money in life as possible!. I think the one who would make money without putting it to some good use in one’s lifetime indeed is a fool!. I believe one should make happiness out one’s money instead, as much happiness as possible, for oneself and for people!. I see no one going crazy, or bad in the head, being happy!. Besides, no one could be genuinely happy all by oneself!. Happiness its is a social things!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would have to disagree with the majority of people then!.!.!. in my opinion if you shoot for the stars, you will end up terribly close!.!.!. and if you aim for higher then the stars you will make it to the stars!.!.!.!. and if you aim for higher then the stars and Beyond that empty space beyond them!.!.!. you will make it to the point beyond the stars!.!.!.!. Everyone falls one step short of where they aim for!.!.!.!. That is why you always aim higher then you should!. Or you will never make it to the point where you want to make it!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If sadly this man (woman) has no higher airm in Life, except materialistic enjoyment that money can buy, why not !?

He (she) is not much different from other people, unless or until some of them become aware and enlightened to feel the joy of life , learning and understanding the purpose of life, and of attaining buddhahood through helping other people towards their enlightenmentWww@QuestionHome@Com

Women are going to expect you to make a good amount of money, unless they are a needle in a hay stack!. Your going to need money for accidents and unexpected events, even hanging out with friends!. Money offers protection and control-power over your environment, freedom to change it!. So why not make a compromise between the two situations!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do as you will!. Ultimately the person who knows what they want from life is he/she who is living their life!. Money in itself has little value once you have you need however!. It is up to each individual to determine what they need!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. In the end, money is a pretty lame thing to end up with, and to spend your life chasing it is very sad to me!. There are much better things in this life that have nothing to do with cash!. Although, it does come in handy when the bills come in!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

materialism has to be put into perspective to produce satisfying results!. Each person defines their own path within the existence they find themselves!.It can be ''dog eat dog'' or it can be ''share and share alike'' either way it makes no difference in the end as we all end up D E A D !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think so!. What is wrong with aiming for whatever makes you happy!? Isn't that what makes it YOUR life!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

is the statement in your title complete!? seems to be missing a word or twoWww@QuestionHome@Com

No, one is not necessairly a fool for pursuing money, and in the situation you describe, I think it is a good aim if you can make it happen; to each their own!.

But, I think when you say pursue money, most people assume that that person will simply pursue making as much money as possible, until the day they die, as their number one goal!.

Working in the financial industry, I see this a lot!. And, the people who pursue money as their #1 objective seem to have a persona that I do not enjoy being around!. Some seem very dull, others seem full of themselves and miserable!.!.!.honestly, I have not met an extremely wealthy individual who truly appears to be happy!.

I think, when you pursue money, it is a concept that is lifeless, and as such, you give up a part of what makes you - you, and what makes you human!. You can easily become a slave to your job, having created so much responsibility to manage, that you become very rigid, dry, serious, and one dimensional!. Its like, in many cases, you must sacrifice a basic part of your overall being to get the money!.

You say having a family and a job you enjoy seems boring, but I would say if it was a family that you desired, your life will be completely changed beyond your wildest expectations upon having your first child!. Often I find the truest peace and happiness to be in the simplest things, and having a family is simple yet amazing, peaceful, and satisfying beyond belief!. For me, it seems to make me more complete, gives me a quiet and simple satisfaction that a big part of my purpose in this life has been fulfilled, and a part of me and my fathers and grandfathers before me will continue to live on beyond my own self!.!.!.but, if you can't tell by now, my #1 pursuit in life is family and so my opinion may be a bit biased!.

Back to the job, however!. Although money is not my pursuit - in fact I despise the idea of having to pursue it - part of the balance of our current society is that it is essential to have in raising a family well!. I like to think it doesn't matter, but when I was struggling for adequate health care, a home in a safe neighborhood, and bills piling up wondering how I was going to pay them, I quickly realized that it does matter -unfortunately!.

So to that, my biggest pursuit is now to find a job I truly enjoy, that still provides enough money, but satisfies me on a much deeper level than money ever will!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

he would only be a fool if all he did was complain about how much he hated his job! if the money is the reason for him having a job he hates then the money will overtake that hate!.!.!.

there is nothing wrong with delayed gratification!. he is not a fool!! he picked his own life! and your right it's wrong for one to say he is a fool!

I think if that's what HE wants out of life the HE should strive for it

now on the flip side!

I'm a doctor taking care of you - yet i never wanted to be a doctor and frankly i hate my job! but i'm making 200,000 bucks a year! I really don't have passion for my job so i'm not going to put 20% into it!
oops i just killed you medical error!
but i have my house on the hills overlooking something or other but society has suffered because i do something with out effort with out passion with out thought!

If more and more people did jobs they wanted to do i think there would be more jobs getting done with QUALITY instead of just being done!

so at one point he is a fool for not being considerate of others and only being selfish for his own needs! that mean nothing to the world (big photo)

to work is to give back to the community! someone only going off of selfish needs doesn't give back to the community and should be forced to take a lower pay!

ideally getting paid 200,000 to do a job you love is well ideal!

I'd reather have someone with a smile giving me at least 50% of their life weather it be in a hospital or at a reasturant then having someone who has issues giving me half arsed job! more so with my food did you wash your hand (OH YOU DON'T CARE)

Selfish not a fool!Www@QuestionHome@Com

There's nothing inherently wrong with being rich or working to make lots of money!. It does seem rather miserable for him to spend day after day, year after year at a job he hates!. How is that less boring than "having a family and a job you enjoy!?" This man may have grand plans for the future, but the future is not guaranteed!. He may not live to be 75 and stand on the balcony of his beautiful mansion!. If he's working hard to be rich, how much time will he be able to spend with his family!? Families and friends don't want banks--they want people who love them!. If in the process of becoming wealthy he distances his friends and family, then he may or may not feel so proud of his material success in the end!. Riches come and go--just look at the world economy--so money is a shaky aim!. As for whether such a man is a fool, well, someone can be very intelligent but still be a "fool" in other areas of life!. Now, there are people who work hard and maintain good relationships with others, and find time to enjoy life so it's certainly possible!. To me it may seem foolish and selfish to make riches alone the ultimate goal, but it is not me that this man would answer to!. He can do what he likes, but should take full reponsibility for the consequences, good or bad!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Okay, I need FOOD right!. So if I HORDE food does that make me better off!?

I do not think it is foolish to sacrifice yourself to making money!. Most people have children some day, and in America, 1 out of 5 children lives in POVERTY!. If you can prevent yourself from being one of those statistics, BRAVO!.

But money is a TOOL, and if you run around using a hammer indiscriminately, you are destroying rather than building!. So pick a job based on the dollar, go ahead, I think that is great!. But realize that there are people sitting in that mansion retired at 25 saying "What have I done to myself!?"

My final advice, which I know you will like, is, if you stay poor and do what you like and it doesn't work out, or you make a lot of money and it makes you miserable, it is easier to UNDO rich than it is POOR!. If you are rich and unhappy, you can give it all away!. if you are poor and unhappy, what do you do now!?

Thanks for the question!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I want to be rich and I dont mind admitting that!.

It isnt so much as having the money, but the kind of life I can have if I had the money!.

Money to me is freedom!. It means that I can wake up one day and say to myself "I want to do that" and have to not worry about trying to get the money to do it!. Or it means "I can go there" without thinking I cant because I would never beable to get the money together to go!.

Money makes life easier, and it would mean that I would be able to experience and enjoy life the way I would like to!.

If a man chooses to aim for money, I think its normal, I mean we live in a material world after all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
