They'd rather make up some "higher power" to worship (sometimes recklessly) than face the possibility that there might not be a glorious retirement home waiting for you somewhere over the rainbow!. Ignorant pricks!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The way I look at it!. If a person is an atheist than one considers man as equal to animals and plants and insects and bugs!. These have no capacity or desire to believe in God at all!. Even nonliving things that are not alive have no beliefs!. The problem is that man can have faith in the unknown and the unknowable!. To be an atheist is to deny that man has that ability to have faith in something that one cannot see exist in the physical world!. Yet a man can dream or have memories that are not tied to time or place and summon them up at his choosing!. Even people long since dead can be alive in his memory!. I'm not really certain if it will ever become socially unacceptable to be a theist!. Because faith falls neatly in the categories of dreams and memories and hope and belief that are natural characteristics of man!. And he can have these qualities even about nonreligious ideals!. Just an opinion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com It is hard because a belief in god, even if not rationally based, provides relatively easy answers to questions for which there is no definitive answer, such as: what is the meaning of life, what happens when we die, what is the purpose of anything that we do in life!? Btw, where did you get the 85% fact!?Www@QuestionHome@Com I am an atheist and I don't find it hard at all!. you have to learn to not care about what people think!. My family is a very religious ITALIAN family!. It was incredibly hard for me to tell them that I didn't believe in what they wanted me to believe in!. after that, i found it pretty easy!. it's not like your religion changes your life drastically, it's more like a way of living your life or what your agree (or disagree) with!.Www@QuestionHome@Com First of all humans have developed portions of their brains specifically reserved for "faith" and for thinking about the concept of "god!." So like it or not humans react to those ideas the same way they do to "face" and "hand" recognition!. A hand is never just some object to a human, and "god" is never just another philosophical trope!. I wonder how those who don't believe manage to do any such thing!. I try and look at a hand and not see anything human, but it doesn't work for me!. I have had "spiritual experiences" (probably induced by that sneaky wiring in our brains,) and I find spiritual issues fascinating and challenging!. But I guess there must have been some evolutionary advantage to those types of occurrences!. Maybe religion helped forge societies and gave hominids an advantage!? Maybe staring at the sky ritually influenced our ability to think about thing, to invent or to understand nature!. So if God and Faith are meaningless terms you STILL have to deal with a planet where almost anybody is moved and effected by those mythological ideas!. It must be tough being an atheist!. No wonder so many atheist I know are angry and irritable!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Sure, there isn't any proof that a supreme being exists, but there isn't proof that one DOESN'T exist either!. It takes blind faith to be an atheist too!. Personally i find it difficult to be absolutely certain that there is no supreme being!. although, if there is a supreme being, i know no human would have ever guessed it right!. because i see all religions as scams!.
