The opposite of love isn't indifference or apathy- those are the opposite of emotion, which is a different issue!. Love is a specific emotion, not a measure of how much emotion (of any sort) is present!.

The opposite of positive is not zero, but negative!. The opposite of delicious is not tasteless, but foul/nasty!.

People wish to grow and nurture whatever they love- they wish to destroy whatever they hate!.

People gravitate towards the people & things they love- they wish to be near and experience them!. People go to any lengths to avoid those people & things they fear!.

The opposite of indifference may be passion- for that's a measure of magnitude, how strongly one feels emotion, whether for good or ill!.

Besides the obvious answer hate, I was thinking 'boredom'!. It seems to me that when you get bored with something, or you get used to something, it becomes one of those mundane things you can't enjoy anymore!. I think love is the exact opposite of being bored with something (or someone), you keep discovering new things, you look at them from different angles, if it's a person you love, you could spend a whole week with them and not get bored, if it's a song you could listen to it over and over again!.

True love is not an emotion, it is the recognition of your self in another!. It has no true opposite because it is not of the relative world!. It is your natural state of being!. What is commonly called love is usually only addictive clinging and emotional neediness projected on another who you believe will fulfill you!. Indifference!. Most people would think hatred I guess, but not me!. In some way that still involves a form of passion and caring, to hate something!.
