Question: Why does the majority determine the way of everyone's life when majority burned people for being witches!?

It has been ingrained into our psych by democratic socialists that there is morality in democracy!. The idea of democracy being a pure moral system is further touted by right-wingers such as George W!. Bush who exonerated the virtue of democracy over Islamic totalitarianism!.

Democracy in its most pure, naked form is mob rule!. It is the belief that the 51% have the right to pillage the 49%!. Democratic socialists like democracy because they like the fact that the more numerous workers can simply vote to steal for themselves more money at the expense of the productive class, therefor bypassing the Class War!.

In America, as it is with all moral societies, our basic rights are not determined by the whims of the mob!. They are determined by the natural rights that all men inalienably possess, as defined by our constitution!. In a constitutionally upheld society, even if 99!.99% of a population wants someone dead, as long as they have not infringed upon the rights of others, the government is obligated to protect them!. The founders of America, for example, never referred to America as a democracy, as democracy used to be a derisive word for the rule of the mob, and always insisted that we are a constitutional republic!.

the 17th century lynching of witches, atheists, and non-christians is a perfect demonstration of the innate folly of believing that mob rule is somehow morally superior!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That was a long time ago!. We now have strict laws, we have little superstitions left in our way of thinking!.

I agree with you that it is not the ideal form of government!. The majority of people is usually less knowledgeable in anything they have to vote on than experts!. But if you let groups of experts make all the decisions on their area of expertise, this could lead to people abusing their power, because in this scenario 'the people' (the greater group) are powerless, so they are powerless to act against tyrants!.

But the current system (although flawed) does not mean that the majority determine the way of everyone's life!. The majority acknowledge the fact that they do not know enough about governing a country, therefore they choose a group of people to represent the general opinion (led by a prime minister, or a president)!. This seems to work out fine, when combined with a just legal system!.

To conclude: Everyone's lives are *not* determined by the majority, they are determined by people the majority put in charge, because the majority agreed these people are the best choice to rule a country!. And because of justice systems the majority can't control everything, they can only control things within the limited possibilities that the law allows!.

Edit: A computer!? First of all there is as of yet no artificial intelligence!. Therefore anything the computer does was programmed!. Meaning that not a computer, but the people programming the computer are really in charge!. Saying computers should rule is ridiculous!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hmmm, so we should let the minority determine everyone's way of life!? Or would you prefer anarchy!? THe majority didn't burn people for being witches, the majority stood by and let it happen!. Not much difference, but it is a difference, none-the-less!. At least the USA allows majority rule while providing protections for the minority (bill of rights)!. In other places, you get rule by 1 person and anybody that doesn't like it gets killed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In that analysis you put your finger on the ''FLAW'' in democracy!. However, flawed or not no one has come up with anything less flawed!. Apart from that your wrong in your assumption that the majority were for burning witches!.!. The issue was never put to a national vote, and only the roman catholics inquisition did the burning, and even then it was a minor number who were burnt as witches!. Sadly, believe it or not the Roman Church still has this sanction on it's ecclesiastical court penalties, it was never repealed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I totally agree, all of these conservatives and their victorian values are really screwing up the way this country is run!. The force their opinions down our throats and since they are the majority they get their way!. Even if it is blatantly wrong, like the witch burnings!. I am really just waiting till our generation is the majority and hope that they are more sensible then those in power right now!.

Hope this helps
Keep thinking :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am not sure that is the correct assumption!. The majority of bullies in that village burnt some people that they thought were witches!. Everyone else were too afraid to speak up!. I think that we might infer that a majority of people are "sheep" and let a small minority of bullies push them around!. Typical!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We can't all voice our opinions or no one would be heard!.
Capitalism is the extraordinary belief that the nastiest of men, for the nastiest of reasons, will somehow work for the benefit of us all!.
