Question: What would Objectivism say about a situation like this!?
At work, I performed the duties of my position very well, and was promoted within a matter of months!. This has been a common theme in my working life, since my first job in high school!.

After a short time in my new position, I'm being dumped on by the boss and some coworkers because, strictly speaking, I'm bored out of my fuggin skull because there isn't enough work for me to do!. I can manage my day in half the time that many of my coworkers can, and we do the same job!.

I freely confess that I'm mismatched in this job, but I'm stuck for two reasons!.

1) my supervisor needs to demonstrate that she needs my chair filled rather than cut in the current budget climate, and she know I'm not long for this job as soon as something better comes along--I'm also loyal to her because she's a good leader and manager

2) I can't afford to quit and there's a hiring freeze on due to the budget in California being in a complete shambles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ayn Rand would tell you that you are only working there by choice!. Your competence isn't being rewarded and the only result of your doing good work is to get more work!. You have ability and intelligence and the fact that you are not happy and underemployed is because you don't choose to make changes!.

If you are thinking of killing yourself (taking a header) then you are weak and don't deserve success!.

Objectively, your choices are these: 1) Leave your job for something/place where your brains and efforts can be recognized and rewarded!. 2) Stay there and try to finds some meaning in what you do!. If do that, you find yourself carrying the weaklings who are using you!. By staying there and doing that, YOU GIVE THEM YOUR VALUE & GET NOTHING IN RETURN!. Ayn Rand would say that is self destructive!.\\Www@QuestionHome@Com

You'e not alone!. This BS happens to a lot of hard working, but unlucky people!.

Of course, I think you HAVE to think of Your Survival, First!.

So, stay in the Job -- and Keep being a "Master" at it, no matter who gets credit or Fails to appreciate your Efforts!.

Practicing a "Good Work Ethic" regardless of the Environment will Benefit you in the Future!.

Stay the course -- and KEEP LOOKING FOR ANOTHER JOB!.

Good Luck :)

Look for a way to get out of there eventually, but do it on your own timeframe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

an objectivist wouldn't be loyal to their bossWww@QuestionHome@Com

What you need is what's known in the biz as Busy Work!. We sometimes used to stamp the date on miscellaneous papers, even on envelopes that were going to be thrown away later!. Yes, we'd stamp, stamp, stamp away!. Then there's always tidying!. Tidying can be tedious, but it can also be time-consuming!. Move things around on the desk a lot and look very stern whilst doing it!. Then move them back where they were before!. This is a vital task, remember, VITAL!

Then there's always the calendaring!. Make a giant calendar to put on your wall, upon which you must write in minute letters all the things you do every day!. You MUST have a number which identifies each task as well, or it isn't official!. Make such a calendar for all the other employees too!. Do so IMMEDIATELY, if not sooner! This is vital, man, absolutely vital!

Now, I don't see how you've lived this long without the weekly STATUS REPORT! You've got to call a meeting once a week, at which everyone must tell all the numbers of all the tasks they've been doing and write them down on an even bigger calendar than the one in your office (even if your office is only the wall next to your desk) and this must be posted in a prominent place (such as inside a closet) and brought out and paraded around upon significant occasions, with great fanfare!. You can put highlighter colors on certain portions, too, to get people excited about dates and whatnot!. It's most effective, I tell you!

You might think this is all a great joke upon the universe, but this is how the government, the military, and most insurance companies actually function!. I stronly advise you to take up this modus operandi immediately and cease and desist acting in a reputable, efficient manner at once! Do you want to be FIRED!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you can do it, find something beyond your normal tasks to do at work!. Thinking up work is not something I like to do but I've found myself in your position and know that it is better to be doing something than nothing!.

Think about it!. You're smart, you can probably find something!. And if not then you have done about as much as you can!.

Are there any kind of training courses offered there!? Can you do some basic research on your job that might help the operation!? Think up a research project and propose it to the boss!. Be on the lookout for opportunities that crop up for special assignments!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to see yourself as the hero!. You are helping your boss and being loyal to her and you can't move on for now so use your extra time for what you want!. Finish your work and spend time writing your books or take breaks between work to write your books!. Or if it's too much just use the time to research your passion!. Get your boss to let you go workout during work hours, might sound silly but many employers do!. Basically you are doing good for others so do some good for you!. Objectively speaking of course!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
