I'm not sure what you mean by 'a consciousness that resembles humans'!. Consciousness itself is a property of minds that to our knowledge only exists for humans and a very small group of other species (chimpanzees, elephants, dolphins and possibly a few others)!. Most higher vertebrates, like dogs and cats and horses and birds and so on, are sentient, which is to say they have thoughts and can perceive the world through sensations, but are not conscious, that is to say they do not possess the idea of their own existence!. Lower animals, like ants and spiders and snails, are not even sentient, and are nothing more than biological automatons!. Not all vertebrates are like this, though; octopuses and squids are also known to be sentient, and octopuses in particular can have levels of thought comparable to many mammals!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
