Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You should feel controlled!. We control ourselves, yet we have no control!. It is a problem with consciousness - a dog doesn't worry about this sort of stuff because it isn't self-conscious!. We on the other hand realise our impulses for what they are, and it can drive us crazy if we care to entertain ourselves with the thought!. Think about what you are asking: "Why can't we just be free of instinct and control our selfs of basic needs!?" To be free of instinct is an impossibility!. We only have instinct!. Thinking is instinctive - it is what has put us at the top of the animal kingdom!. Thinking about sex is a major part of instinct as well, for obvious reasons!. The best we can do is eliminate these 'lower', more primitive, 'animalistic' instincts and focus instead on more developed, rational, self-conscious thought!. I too resent what you call the "adulterous facet of civilized pleasure", although it is only one of a long list of things I am dissatisfied and disillusioned with!. I will try to find an alternative lifestyle, some already exist!. Perhaps we could both benefit by reading up on Buddhism, from the little I know Buddhists are motivated by similar causes!. The interesting thing is that Buddha claimed to have found the best way - the 'middle way' - that is not extreme abstinance yet not extreme indulgence!.
