Assume that some form of materialism is true!. Assume also that there is no unchanging soul that is the bearer of personal identity!. Describe how it still mist be possible for someone to survive the death of the body!. I really need to understand this, thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yet this posture cannot be too radical because it couldn't explain other things, like say, thought, consciousness!. If there is no soul, nothing that gives unity, then there is nothing left when you die!. Materialism would say that death is really just a transformation, a change, because to begin with, materialism can't even explain life, because life cannot be reduced to simple matter!. Materialism is also thought of as determinism!. If there is no soul, no will, no thought, there is no liberty or freedom!. Everything is determined, fixed!. If this is true, life after death would have no sense!. Oh, and about your last comment, the greeks and some other modern philosophers, thought of art as a form of immortality!. Art remains!. Honor was also important!. The romans would value honor very much because it was also a way to live for ever!. also, that's why it was so important to have a big family, because in a way it's leaving a part of you behind!. (And being very materialistic, it would literally be leaving a part of you behind!.) Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com It's not hard to understand death!. You die!. That's it!. Your soul is your body while you are living!. When you die, the part of you that is always with God, is his memory of you, which is your spirit!. To re-materialize would be to resurrect, which will happen to some of those who have already died and when God wants it to happen, not before or after will it happen and no human is capable of performing this feat on his/her own!. Those that are resurrected will be themselves, not exactly as they were, but with characteristics of themselves, and not marrying or given in marriage!.
