Question: Do you agree with the saying "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"!?
Why or why not!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do and I don't!.

If you let other people just get revenge, that's an eye for an eye!.
And if you let that happen, we're allowing revenge to rule the world (which is the whole world becoming blind)!. If we do this, we're missing the point of the saying, which is saying to forgive!. Now I agree that people who beat someone to death should be locked in a room and have the same things happen to them!.

But at the same time, if we did that, we'd be no better than those bad people and then where does it stop!? You know!?

Yes I agree with the saying!. What I feel is that the original saying of simply "An eye for an eye" is commonly misunderstood!. I believe that it means that the punishment should be appropriate for the crime!.

If somebody steals from you, it won't help to steal from that person!. That just leads to chaos!. It would be appropriate, however, to make the person replace what he stole or if he is unable to do so, to compensate you in some other way, or go to prison for his crime!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

An eye for an eye makes the whole world "just" even if "some" not "all" become blind!. I do not understand how Gandhi assumed that the "whole world" will go blind!.

An eye for an eye will be a lesson to the person that if he did evil he will be punished for it in the same way!. If he gets punished in the same way, the person will be less likely to harm others due to his new handicap!. Hence, the possibility of new crimes by this person is reduced!. An eye for an eye is "Justice"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do believe in this saying!.
Violence breeds more violence, hence "an eye for an eye!." If everyone sought revenge for acts committed against them then it would become a never ending cycle!.
A good example that comes to mind is the following:
You have two families (A & B) and the Husband-A kills Son-B for raping his daughter!. The cousin of Son-A murders Husband-A for killing his cousin!. The best friend kills Cousin-B for murdering Husband-A!. And so on, and so forth!. Eventually the families will keep on killing each-other and eventually forget why they are killing each-other!.
My point is that it cannot keep going on!. It has to stop somewhere!.

I hope that answered your guestionWww@QuestionHome@Com

NO b/c I just don't! If someone murders a child or rapes a child!.!.!.if it were my child they wouldn't make it!.!.!.thats an eye for an eye to me!
Thats the problem with the world today and why people are so out of control!.!.!.they commit acts like these and are let back out on the streets! While little petty offenders can face life in prison!.
No ranting please its just my feelings!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, Look at iraq what better example is that!. You killed my so and so, Im going to kill you and so and so!.!.!.!.so it continues with out end!. I think the bible has it right when it says to forgive!. It doesn't mean you have to forget what happened and it doesn't make everything "OK"!. What is the purpose of revenge other than to cause harm to another!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, I agree!.

But maybe being blind we might strengthen our other senses!.

(Just kidding, I know what you're referring to!.)
Violence feeds Violence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. and i reference my answer to another!. i give to you my disbelief that i may believe!. It does matter to whom we give our sight to!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
