EDIT:
What I mean when I talk about begging the question is your counter-posing the concepts of destruction and peace!. For me, that's the problem of your question!. I don't necessarily see destruction as a "disturbance of the peace" (to coin a phrase)!.

Consider the Industrial Revolution!. At every stage, it destroyed jobs; but it also created new jobs as well!. While sometimes society reacted with a Luddite clash, for the most part this process has been one of orderly progress!.

I see no inherent contradiction in this -- no Either/Or!. Remember, the Hindu God Shiva is both creator and destroyer!.

If you can accept that destruction doesn't necessarily mean violence (an end of peace), then sure, progress can embrace destruction, and sometimes necessitates it!.

Hope this clarifies!.

I disagree with the premise of your question!. I think the fallacy Cogito is looking for is called "Begging the Question;" and that's what you're doing here!.

To say that progress requires destruction isn't always the case!. I admit, sometimes it is; but the vast majority of progress results from a dialectical process of synthesis!.

For the most part, change is evolutionary, and progress a series of orderly mutations!.

I hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Destruction does not necessitate violence!.

You are using a familiar fallacy, I forget its name, where you use two different meanings of the same word in different portions of your argument: one validating a premise and the other twists that premise into valid argument, but leading to a false conclusion!. In the first half you use destruction to mean reconstruction by reformation of the old!. In the second half you use destruction as the violent, warlike act that causes pain and suffering!.

Yes you are!. What do you mean then by "why do we want peace!?" What do you mean by "strive for death!?"

We can construct, renew, and reform our ideals and society into a better future (destruct out past ways) without seeking death or undermining peace!.

Now youre talking about fanaticism and rebellion, or revolution even!. Hardly different than what I am saying!.

If the people wanted to change, they would!.!.!. and something "explosive," as you put it, wouldnt be necessary!. For that sort of explosive change to occur, some few would have to force a change, a realization, or the need for change, onto the greater populace!.

Whether violent or not, its still the result of some select few dictating and forcing their views on others!. Because who is anyone to not only decide that change is necessary, but what that change should be, how to enforce it, and then to make it happen!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The process of life is made up of creation, maintenance, and destruction!. So yes, progress requires destruction, but it also requires the other two!. If you're going to "strive for death", you also have to strive for creation and maintenance!. And the fact is, we do strive for destruction, and entirely too much!. There's a huge amount of unconscious striving for destruction in the human race!. So we're way out of balance as far as the three go, which is why the world is in such a bad state!. It would be good for us to do more striving for the other two!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

dude, dont ever say WE again!. we includes too many people for your silly talk!.

the most peaceful thing in earth is nature and when nature takes over the world YOU know, or think you know it will DESTROY everything and bring it back to the nature it once knew before YOU spoiled it and it will do so in a very VIOLENT and RAPEING manner just like YOU and the world as YOU see it has done to the Earth!. There is destruction with a purpose (like when you implode a building and build a new one in it's place) and there is senseless destruction!.
Terrorism is senseless destruction!. That's why we want to end it!.

Because progress also signifies destabilization and the humankind is inherently too insecure to be able to accept absence of stability for any sustained period of time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
