Question: Money has become our newest god!?
i want to hear some other people's opinions on this, because i'm beginning to lose my faith in humanity!. it seems to me that the most important thing in the world right now is money!. people are killed for money, people are lied to for money, marriage is ended because of money, people take their own life because of money!. people sell their souls everyday for money!. and the thing is, money is a concept!. sure, you can physically grasp money, you can flip a coin or fold a dollar bill, but in reality the only thing it does is keep us in our place!. instead of pursuing higher education for the sake of education or to improve our society, we pursue higher education to get a piece of paper that says we are smart and worthy of making lots of money!.
if we spend our entire life pursuing money, we're too preoccupied with making money to think for ourselves or do what we actually enjoy doing!.
if we all woke up tomorrow and decided that we don't need money we would all be so much happier!. no more bills to lay up at night worrying about!. no more bullshit jobs we have to go to in order to buy food and shelter!. most people spend at least 40 hours each week doing something they hate because it is the only "skill" they possess that is worth anything in society's eyes!. that's more time than most christians spend talking to, praying to, or praising god in a week!.
it seems to me that money is slowly but surely replacing God in our society (for this question let us assume that god exists)
i'm just curious to hear some other thoughts on this
my entire thought process here is too complicated to type!. it's late and i'm tired!. maybe some day i'll write it all down or figure out a way to explain it better!. but i hope you understand what i'm trying to say Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know how new it actually is, but yes, people love money and treat money like a god!.
Think of how much better off the environment would be if people didn't want money so much!. Think of how much better human relationships would be!. Governments!?
It is silly that we're running our planet and species into the ground over something that doesn't really exist!. Where do you think it comes from!?

In a modern economy, money simply stands in for the things we need to survive and are naturally drawn to!. Just as we must search out food and shelter in a state of nature, so must we search out money in this society!. Without it we would die, and it is in our nature to do everything we can to avoid that!. i don't think this is new ever since money replaced the barter system it has ruled our lives but i find that its the best system of trading and exchanging wealth that be have and society couldn't function without money!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sure that humanity is obsessed with money, but money is only a concept, a tool to be used in commerce - not so different from screws and screw-drivers!.
If we decided tomorrow to stop using screws and screw-drivers, we sure would survive, but life would just be a little bit awkward without money - nor screws and screw-drivers!.
What people should realize is that God only functions as a concept in reality!. It is in that narrow specific perspective that money and God are similar!. People should also realize that there are other things in humanity outside of money - health, family, friendship, happiness, love, hopes!.!.!. etc!. Too many to mention!. Thou money is often the mean - the vehicle, we should never lose focus of the ends as those are the real values we deem worthy of pursuing!. The figure on a bank statement is just that if there is no context to it!.
We should all ask ourselves what should we spend our money on!? For those wanting just to grow money, they might as well buy some pots of plants and grow them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
The problem is exploiters which exist in any system!. Using the God example, throughout the the last 2 millenia, there have been those that offer and withhold God based on what you are willing to do for them!. If you don't give your time, wealth, talents, etc, you do not get God from us!. That's where money is at the present day!. There are those who have a great deal who say you don't get a part of this unless you do as we say, and exploit the position of wealth!. If tomorrow there was no money, there would be a system where those who had could exploit and would if no punishment or law existed to stop them!. I think the real question is not how do we get rid of money, but how do we change societys' views concerning how much of our lives we should have to sacrifice to receive the basic means of survival!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, a lot of people are losing their morals and beliefs to the green monster, but God isn't going to put the food on your table or pay your bills right on time!. Money is sadly an earthly value that is needed (in my opinion not to me)!. But that's how the world turns!. First we can't just get rid of money!. If nobody is working than how do you make the nutranlaser blast telescopes or why even go to college just sit outside and do nothing becuase no tv to watch!.
Second I believe the word you are looking for is materialistic People buy things to fill voids in their life!. The more things I have the better off I feel!. There is an old saying that "money is the second god"!. There is another saying that "money is the root of evil"!. The third one is, "money is sweeter than honey"! All these are just old sayings, nothing realistic!. And all these are said by the frustrated money-less guys, believe me!. The way you mentioned that ' people are fighting for money, killing for money, committing suicide for money, deprived from education due to money shortage'----does that mean, people fight for God also!? kill for God too!? My four children are fighting for a larger screen HDTV for the last few years---does that mean the so-called HDTV is God to them!? Please do not get frustrated that level when you become to blame "humanity" (as you said earlier)!. In fact it's the curse of Capitalism, truly speaking!. Days are coming when feudalism in the form of capitalism would evaporate and equal distribution of wealth would emerge! Observe the situations of the giant banks, car manufacturers, airliners etc!.
