Rationalism can mean different things in different situation, but in philosophy, ratioanalism is contrasted with empiricism!.

Most famous rationalist is Descartes, but rationalist roots go all the way back to Socrates and Plato!. Aristotle usually isn't considered a rationalist in a strict sense!. Since he believed that senses are the basis of knowledge, it would be more adaquate to consider him to be an empiricist!.

There are many other rationalists!. Leibniz, Spinoza and Kant can be considered to be all rationalists!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
