Question: If you were starving to death and the only way to survive was to eat your beloved pet!?

Would you do it!?
I want you to understand that our survival instincts are greater than affection or love!. Am I wrong!?

Years ago, when my daughter was about 4, I would bring home 'day-old' chickens to raise for [i] egg production, and [ii] meat (the males were allocated that role)!. My little daughter would spend hours daily playing with these chickens!.

"You! Timmy! You're being really naughty today! I'll punish you if you don't behave! Ah, good boy, now!"

"Oh, poor little dear! The naughty big chooks ate your food!. Here's some more!."

She would 'read' stories to them, dress them in her doll's clothing when they became larger!.!.!.!. To say she loved them would be a big understatement!.

Then the evil day arrived!. Yes, the largest of the male chickens would appear on the table, roasted!.

"Oh! Doesn't Timmy taste lovely, Mum!" said healthy, rural-living daughter!.

I would say you are wrong, that there are plenty of examples of people putting aside their own survival instincts for the sake of affection or love!.

It might be the case though, that there is some other reward that enters the equation to tip the scales toward love and affection so that it wins out over survival instincts!. It could be that self-sacrifice ultimately has selfish roots, and we do it for the reward of feeling good about doing it, or to avoid the punishment of feeling bad about not doing it!.

If altruistic acts created feelings exactly opposite to the ones that they normally do, would we still do them!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

This one has, at different times and in various places eaten many different snakes, sea creatures, dogs, cats, monkeys, lizards, alligators, horse, donkey, camel, rat, humming bird, crickets, ants, garsshoppers, grubs, beetles, termites and other creatures!.

This one would have to consider long and hard about eating a pet so as to save himself as after all, that would be one or possibly two meals and then one would starve to death anyway and that might not be worth the emotional pain and the death of a friend!.

However, if was between feeding this ones daughter and the life of the pet, this one might feel very differently!.

Then the question might be what would this one tell his daughter about the missing pet!?

Whoever says no, has never been in a death situation, this certain type of situation!. Look back at the Romantic period!.!.!.This is when cannibalism started erupting!. People do crazy things in crazy situations!. This is my personal belief: Right now I would like to say that no, I would never do it!. But I know that everyone here would in fact, do it!. If the question was, 'If you were starving to death, and the only way to survive was to eat your beloved friend' I STILL think people would do it!. The human body has a survival mode and it resorts to things that we find grotesque in today's society!. There was a study conducted at Harvard University in Spring of 2005, 100 people were asked the question of resorting to eating their family/friends in this situation, time of death!.!.!.if you were stranded on an island type of situation!. Guess what!? 90% of people said they would do it, and 10% said they would do it as well but not if it was their children!. Yea, its very surprising and it shocked me too, but yeah!. No, I don't believe I could bring myself to kill a friend and furry family member for the sake of a few morsels!. That however is my personal opinion, others may choose to eat!. As far as survival instincts, a man down the road from my aunt had committed suicide in wintertime(keep in mind they lived in the boonies), his body wasn't found until spring!. He had five dogs, all of which were starving, nearly dead and yet they still watched over his body!.!.!.if they didn't choose to survive by eating their master I wouldn't deem it fair for us to eat them!. There is always another way to survive and if there isn't then the time a dog or cats body would give us would be wasted in comparison to our emotional turmoil!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If this was true, then why are there so many instances where people put themselves in harms way to save the life of another!?
another problem with this is the fact that people don't have the same type of "love" for pets as they do for other humans!. If my pet was my only chance of survival, I would take it!. If the death of another human was my only chance of survival, then I would die!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it were life or death, no possible way to get any food!.

I would eat my rabbit first then 2 dogs!. Before it came down to that I would be foraging in the forrest looking for grubs, or trying to catch a fish, or even eating grass or some other type of vegetation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i would never do that!. i would have to slaughter my pet and then cook it, the whole time knowing that it wanted food just as much as i did and stood by me the whole way, i reward it by killing it and eating it for my selfish self!. i dont think so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
