You are right, many are overvalued and profits are incredible!. Art I think is a very personal choice!. Art holds your heart not the mind!. It should appeal to your emotions!. I could watch the works of the most famous artist of the day, yet if I did not feel a thing for the painting, to me it would be just a picture drawn!. Most critics judge paintings so objectively, yet how can one remain objective when emotions are involved!. They are not affected by the painting therefore they can criticize it, they are not exactly the best judges!. Art should appeal to me, weather it cost $100 or 10, 000!. If it did not, to me it would be worthless, unless I become unaffected by the art yet buy it cause it would be good investment!. Upper classes try to influence the taste of the masses, cause of course the poor masses have no money or taste in art!. They are not educated enough to know what is good or bad! I hate people like that!. They are the ones who overvalue paintings and make the so called artists and the museums richer!.
There is no such thing as good art and bad art! Art is art and it should appeal to the senses not the wallet!.

Good art takes a lot of time, effort and soul to make!. Art is really only a copy of one's reality!. Depending on how you perceive reality you give your own slant through the art you make!. I think people who are beautiful and pure in heart can make excellent art!. Some people create art for the purpose of making a living or sometimes in satirical mockery of the world around them!. The best art often comes from people who are not under pressure to get money!. In every artist's life they start off producing good art which increases to a point in his/her life at which they are best, after-wards the work usually declines in quality with old age but we remember artists for their good pieces and not the bad ones!. I personally believe good art is created from the pure in heart, the art is bad if it is lacking in passion and soul!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Originally, what was thought of as "good" art was determined by the viewing public, which consisted of the nobility and the very well to do financially where and when art work was a trophy and the trappings of the same status these person believed they held!.

The common man or peasant seldom viewed any art other than that which was displayed in the churches and was being used to educate, indoctrinate and manipulate the viewers!.

Has society progressed and the middle class became more affluent and financially better off, they began to imitate their "betters" and purchased some art for themselves!.

This is when the art dealer, sales person came into being and as with any product that is being sold to the masses the best sales persons sold more and made more!.

Along with selling came advertising of the product in art shows and the "education" of the buying public, which was often convincing them that less masterly produced art was indeed excellent art!.

This eventually lead to the "slap, dash and the happy accident" school of art where the untalented, unskilled poured paint on a canvas as they blew the same about with fans, etc!., or simply splashed it one and then the sales person convinced the buyers that this was "art"!.

All art is over valued, even the best of it, especially considering that the idea of the "starving artist" is not often a myth but a reality!.

Museums don't gain as much as the art dealers, those who do not produce their own work and live off the selling of the sweat and hopes of those who do!.

I think something is good if it is very life-like or if the artist has put in his emotions into the work so much that you feel as if you can see into his mind!. Good art gets a message across!.

Many works are overvalued, and the artists are making a killing from doing child-like works that sell for millions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is no definition!. You could shiit on a stick and someone will call it abstract!.

Art is whatever inspires or elicits an emotional response!. I prefer to define art as something that elicits a specific emotional response, deliberately on the part of the artist that designed, or programmed, the art with said emotion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The good thing about the arts is that there is no right or wrong!. It all depends on the viewer's likes and dislikes that it can be classified by!.

That's why to be an art teacher, you not only have to be somewhat "good" at art (as in not scribbling or anything) but the major part of being one is to understand other people's tastes and not grade them based on yours!.

Hope that helps!. Now for the Kamikaze Watermelon's exit!.
