Question: If you do a good job as an employee, but nobody is there to notice it, do you still do a good job!?
I worked a third shift job once where I went above and beyond every night but didn't get any recognition!. Nobody was there to witness my work!. The only person who knew I was doing a good job was myself and another guy who worked with me!. I even had perfect attendance for 2 out of the three years and wasn't recognized for it but the folks on other shifts who had perfect attendance received awards!. All we heard were complaints from management and the other shifts!. I worked that job real hard for three years!. I came home real tired in the morning!. But I never got much of a raise and got bad performance reviews!. This was a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical!. It has soured my view towards employers!. Now I really do realize that hard work alone could possibly get you nowhere in the United States!.

It is very hard to do a good job when you are invisible or unappreciated!. I was blossoming in my job 3 years ago when I had a boss who valued and encouraged me!. Now I work for a lunatic who destroys everything she touches, and she won't leave my work alone, she has to dismantle everything I do!.
It's like working in a hurricane!. And she is advancing and I am a "problem employee" now!.
But I do a good job for me, ultimately!. But it is very hard!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
I always tried to do my best, whether or not there was anyone to observe, because in the end, I have to live with myself!. Your remarks do raise a question, however!. Makes me wonder what you and your co-worker might have done to improve your company's ratings of your job performances!. I do a good job because I hate myself if I don't!. Many times I could have done a "slop job", and no one would have known but me!. My knowing is enough, I can't stand to do a bad job!.
That said, you could have brought it to your employer's attention that you were doing a good job that wasn't appreciated!. Employers are people and make mistakes!. You might have been able to work this one out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not saying it's for everyone, but this is why a lot of people would rather work for themselves!. If you are the boss, then you know exactly how your employees deserve recognition, and you can give it to them!. I too work at a job where if you do something great, you never hear a word, but if you slip up ONCE, you are going to get yelled at by at least three people!. It becomes almost a game of balance, where you do just enough to get by, but no longer go out of the box when it comes to doing the best you can!. I agree, highly annoying, that's why I started FOREX trading!. I work for myself, make my own hours, make good money, and I know that if I dont do well one day, it was my fault, and if I do really well one day, well that was my fault too!Www@QuestionHome@Com
