Question: How to judge people-by action or intention!?
People are like stained glass windows:
They sparkle and shine when the sun is out
but, when the darkness sets in,
their true beauty is revealed
only if there is a light from within!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well said!
But, sometimes the glass could become transparent, when one cleaned one's heart from the grain and dust!. Then one becomes a way where illumination could go through!. I can't judge people but I believe one's intention comes first then one's action!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Human beings do appear to be like that!. But nevertheless, while intention may be brighter and more beautiful than action, it is not easier to see!. A human with the strongest, brightest light will be the person who tries the hardest to keep his intention hidden!. Then, action is all you have to judge that person by!.

Some humans want to be judged by action because they do not want anyone to know their intention!. Should we nose around and try to unearth this person's light against his will!? Maybe we can't resist it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think we should judge other by both action and intentions!. Some believe they are worthy by their actions, even though deep down they may not truly care!. This is because some people have been either shaped up to do certain actions since its maybe considered a "norm" or they do what they should, just to be viewed respectable in the eyes of others!. As a result we should judge others of what their true intentions are!. IE!. Did that guy help that old man with his groceries because he was truly empathetic and feels this man needs help!? Or did this person just help him based on how he was brought up or how he wants to look in the eyes of others!.!. He may have learned from an early age to help those in need!.!. good lesson, but does he truly feel the same way!.!. Worst case scenario, if some one just puts on a show just to look respectable!. Like you said "but, when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed" Then we see what a phony is truly about!. Point is we should not only judge ones by his or hers actions, but also by his or hers true intentions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Thanx a lot for the beautiful analogy!.
Yes the intention has to be good, after all actions do not take place
by accident!. However if you have a business head and a self interest
to protect, then perhaps you would like to see that good intention
being translated into action!.
Sometimes in life a mere intention can go miles in helping out
somebody, as actions are constrained by so many factors people
understand your helplessness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe that intention should matter above action!.

However, if someone were truly pure of heart, their actions would reflect their intentions!. Failure to anticipate the consequence of ones actions is a poor judgment call, just as much so as making a poor decision deliberately!.

I believe good deeds done for evil reasons are still just as wrong as evil deeds done for good reasons or by accident!.

Actions should be judged, especially!. Not because it reflects intention, perhaps it does!. But because it reflects a general degree of ignorance and lack of overall concern, which was capable of justifying an act in the first place!. These people are a risk to others, at the very least!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is also matter of practice, when you start judging persons you should observe his/her face and actions and the reaction!. The more you practice then more you know!. It is actually true but the darkness always lies in but you should be more bright than darkness so that you should have better idea what is behind the window!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think intentions that are supported by actions
are what count!. Intentions that are simply dreams
don't!. Actions that are simply arbitrary don't!. I
don't think an action supported by an intention is
a wrong thing, unless the intention was wrong!.
(If it doesn't work, a new action can be tried)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Here's what Jesus says:

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged!. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you"!. (Matthew 7:1-2)

The answer to your question is: neither!.

Best not to judge at all, but otherwise the action is just a reflection of the intention!. Like you said, the light within is needed to illuminate the window!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We can never be certain of our fellow man but we can judge His actions, deeds , and to a degree His character, but the most important thing is His values!. Do not be deceived by His words though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
