Question: Who is this "I" who has occupied this human's mask!?

The nature and essence of "self" is the most fundamental question in metaphysical subjects!. The concept of self-awareness and self-consciousness can lead to self-realization and ultimately understanding the nature of I who is under this human's mask!. I'm not going to respond with an answer about an intangible soul!.

Biologically speaking, "I" am nothing more than my body and my brain!. States of emotion, recorded memories, hardwired behaviors, all simply byproducts of neurological systems and cycles!.

In vaguely psychological terms, "I" an amalgamation of my memories (past), interests (future), body (physical), and behavior and personality (mental)--and they can all be separated!. In each instance, "I" refers to a different aspect of myself, but in our language, we merge all of these into one concept, one word!. For example, the "I" in "I love her" differs from the "I" in "I'm in bed!." The former is a mental attraction, (perhaps she fulfills my preconceptions and needs), while the latter is simply a physical description of the state and location of my body!.

i am afraid you haven't dug deep enough!. there is yet another layer which the I covers!. the mind I is like a computer with memory, processing unit, hardware and software!. But there is one more layer yet to go beyond it!. like an onion, peel off the I to realize that there is no I!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
