Excessive pride is a vice, because it's just arrogance!. So is suppressed pride because it's a forced (and thus false) modesty!.

To take pride in what one has achieved through hard work is fine, also to take pride in trying to make the best of ones god given looks, to wear the most flattering clothes, the most flattering hairstyle to enhance the looks God gave us!.!. that is normal I believe and right that we make the best out of what we got, vanity is a vice!. If we are vain, we are shallow, if we believe looks are everything!.!.!. they are not!. Therefore !.!. as I said to take pride in doing ones best to look good is not a vice in my eyes and to take pride in achievements for which we worked hard but to be vain or even narcisisstic!.!. that is either an illness or a vice!.!. Pride usually isnt considered a virtue at all!. Its one of the seven deadly sins, in fact!.

The reason being, pride usually goes unchecked and grows!.

I dont think pride in and of itself is a sin!. But I do think it leads to excessive pride, arrogance, bias, prejudices and the reluctance to remain open-minded or to change or to accept criticism!.

Certainly not a virtue!.

But lacking pride, to the point of self-loathing and loss of self-esteem is also a failing!. There is a happy, healthy medium!.!.!. where the pride one has is actually justifiable and doesnt detract from good judgment!.

I think ALL pride is wrong if it is based on superficialities that an individual has/had no part in, never chose themselves or worked towards!. I think taking pride in race, gender, etc!.!.!. are all immoral!.!.!. and leads to prejudices and stereotypes!. Regardless how much or little pride you have in said categories, they are fundamentally wrong to have!. Because it says nothing about you and everything about the luck of happenstance!. If you can hold the same pride for yourself regardless how you were born, what race or gender, then it really doesnt mean anything to begin with!. If I can take as much pride in being white as you can in being black, then what intrinsic value does either have to begin with!?

Pride in group affiliations seed prejudices, as it creates an undue polarity in society, as those of one group support and back their kind!. Because pride is a declaration of righteousness and inherent value/worth!. "I am proud to be white, because you should envy me for being white, because white is the better race and my ethnicity is better than yours!." If you cant justify your pride without sounding like a bigot towards those "less fortunate", then you shouldnt have it at all!.

You cannot have pride in your race without having a hint of distaste for another!.!.!. as all races should be equal!. If equality was true, biases wouldnt exist!. But prideful associations with groups create a basis for biased judgment!. Taking pride in ethnicity or gender is wrong!. Taking pride in the fact/choice that you observe your heritage is right!. Taking pride in which heritage that is, is wrong!.

And this is true not just of race and gender, but any characteristic that you were born into, genetic or not!. Take pride in the fact that you were ingenuitive, hard-working and insightful enough to become rich!. Dont take pride in all the work daddy did before you!.!.!. you just happened to be born into money!. Take pride in the fact that you bust your butt in the gym to build what little muscle you have, not because you are genetically inclined for musculature!. Take pride for studying until the early hours of the morning and sacrificing your social life for your eduction, and still only pass with a 2!.0!. Dont take pride because you get 4!.0's, born with a natural inclination to absorb raw information!. One is natural, one requires work on a personal level!.

Take pride in the fact that you serve and defend the people!. Dont take pride in the fact you happen to have a badge and a gun!. The former is a selfless virtue!. The latter is corrupted!. As is the case with cops who pursue with a vengeance the infamous "cop killer"!.!.!. when they should be pursuing the murderer of little Sally's Dad who was on his way home from the office to be with his daughter!.

The only pride that has any real worth is the pride one has for their own individual choices and accomplishments!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What some call Pride is a ********* or confidence that you can pull something off!. If you can, is it still pride!?
