Question: Suppose a clone of you made replicating even the exact mental state you are in!?
suppose your clone is not just physically your exact equal but also has your exact mental state!.!.theoretically your brain may be mapped andthe exact pattern of electrical impulses replicated inside the clone!.

lets say your clone claims he is not the clone, not only its difficult for third persons to tell the difference even your clone dose not know he is a clone,he thinks he is real you,so whats the difference between you and the clone!?how can you be certain you are not the clone,so at best you can have a 50% chance you are real!? is there any way you can think you can tell if you are the real one or the clone with cerainty!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Carbon dating, I'd imagine!. You can't just make matter age!. On that note, clones are born, not created!. So your clone would be an infant!. And if you were an infant too, you'd just be twins!.

Of course, I keep my trusty "in case of clones" gun ready at all times!. It's right next to my zombie shotgun!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can tell by the age difference!. Clones have to be born, they dont just get put together as an adult!. I suppose if they found a way to map your brain though, they would have to find a way to create clones without the need for being born!.
If that was the case, then you would be screwed and you would never know!. :p
Hopefully that never happens!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Under perfectly identical conditions, no, you probably would have no way of knowing if you were the clone or the original you!. And aside from arguments about souls and their nature and origin it wouldn't matter!. In the world of sci-fi, that's the basis of most "transporters" (and the seldom-discussed procedure of destroying the original at the point of origination)!.

On a similar note, you might look up the short story "Child's Play" and the implications of not-quite-perfect cloning!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whatever your scientist does regarding perfection & make a clone of mine, the clone would miss my experiences so far, ahh! At least the cloning of mine would never ever get a little sympathy from my Mom since the clone brought no pain to her, what I had given her to remember me and vice versa!. And I'm 500% sure, seeing that clone, my dad's face would get pale!
Thanks for an interesting question after a long gap here!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

if a person is cloned all of that persons atoms and molecules are the exact same as the other persons, but theoreticaly if some one knew enough about half lifes and the way atoms( electrons, protons, and neutrons) interacted they should be able to tell with 100% certainty!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well as one general once said of Texas, "If I owned both Texas and Hell, I'd rent out Texas and go live in Hell!." Here, if such a clone came along, I'd let it have my crummy situation and move on to more pleasant climes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If there was a clone of me, mental state included, then Lord help us all, just ask my husbandWww@QuestionHome@Com

Well, as other answers show, the circumstances of how the duplicate is created helps to tell them apart!.

So let's say you had a machine that produces a perfect duplicate down to the atoms!. Atomic decay means one element turning into another element, so that doesn't tell you anything about the age!. They would be truly identical in every way!.

But assuming you're manning the machine, the duplicate would know he's the duplicate because he just stepped out of the machine and would see you at the controls!. From the duplicate's point of view, he would have been at the controls and then suddenly appeared in the "duplication chamber", so he would know he's the duplicate!.

But let's say you had a third party running the controls and two identical chambers that spin around each other so that after the experiment, neither person would know who was original!. In that case, it would be impossible to tell the duplicate from the original, and they both would not be sure whether they are the duplicate or the original!.

And if they are both duplicated to the level of atoms, they both would be exactly equivalent after stepping out of the booths!. Of course, one would be on the left and one would be on the right, so their perceptions would be different and their memories would begin to diverge immediately!. As time went on, they would become more and more distinct individuals!.

If you happen to believe in a "soul" or other supernatural things, it's possible they might be different in that way!. But this is what would happen from a purely mechanistic point of view!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
