Question: Philosophy student needs help with something really basic!.!?
I'm taking my first philosophy course online!. We had to write an entry about developing a philosophical mindset!. I did that, and it wasn't brilliant, but passable!. Now, I have to respond to someone else's post, but when I read the others I have no idea what to say!. The instructor said he was looking for "serious reflection" but I'm not sure what that means or how I'm supposed to "reflect" on their work!. I'm not very good at this, so far!. What can I look for to respond to!? What kinds of things are you supposed to say or not say!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

My guess is that he wants you to use analysis and logic!.

Use a critical eye to evaluate what is being said and comment on it!. Don't worry that you might be wrong!. Philosophy takes skill, like anything else, and skill takes practice!.

EDIT: also don't be afraid to be critical of others thoughts!. In every day life, it's considered somewhat rude, but it is part of what philosophy is about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What your instructor simply means to is reflect!.!.!.provide a type of moral meaning to the post!. Try being creative using descriptive language, take whatever the concept is and provide meaning to it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sounds like you might not understand this other persons work!. If so, in your serious reflection admit your ignorance and try to figure what they could be saying!. Maybe go through a few options!. Be charitible and critical!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
