Question: How would Thomas Aquinas's/Epicurus view the war in Iraq!?
I have to answer this for a philosiphy class but I am having a hard time deciding wether this war is: 1!.) just, 2!.) did George Bush have the authority to wage war, and 3!.) did he have a good intention!? It seems like we went to war for W!.M!.D's and to bring democracy to Iraq!. However we didn't find any W!.M!.Ds amd have not brought democracy to Iraq!. We did however get rid of Sadaam which is deffinantley a good thing!.
What other things should I consider about the war in Iraq!.
And i don't even know how to answer this with Epicurus because we have read nothing of his that relates to war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am pretty sure Aquinas would agree with the war because he makes much reference to the bible in his ideas, such as "delivering people from the hands of sinner," stuff like that!. Thought he may not agree with it, perhaps because all other options were not sought out!.

I think you should google the letter written by Jimmy Carter in 2003 about his view on the war, he uses the "Just War Theory" as a guideline in his letter!.

Bush did have the authority to wage war, he is the commander in chief, he has the authority over the power that actually goes to war!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think that Epicurus would agree to the war in Iraq because it has caused more suffering than it has reduced!. It has reduced pleasure, not increased it!. (Epicurus was a utilitarian ahead of his time)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you answered your own question when you said "nothing of his that relates to war!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Civil order in the global community is a goal for all members of the United Nations! 17 Violations of the sanctions that the United Nations vote on and needed to be enforced regarding IRAQ under Saddam Hussein's leadership! The President of the United States, deemed being a member of The Security Council, felt 17 sanctions were actionable! The President went twice to the Congress for approval to enforce the sanctions and got unanimous vote of support! The United Nations was not so interested in enforcing their own sanctions, so the President marshaled an INTERNATIONAL TASK FORCE to remove the offensive leadership in IRAQ! It was mission accomplished, even though there was fierce opposition from Saddam Hussein's sympathizers! There was a need to vanquish the insurgents and prevail!Www@QuestionHome@Com
