Good for you for noticing this!.

"An unexamind life is not worth living!."- Socrates!.
Most people don't examine their lives!. They wake up take a shower, bursh their teeth, go to work, come home, watch TV, hit the snoozer!.!.!. it's like clock work the next day!. Completely unexamined, useless, lifeless without purpose and wihout meaning!. No human is happy in this "trance" that they are in!. But, now that we know it's a problem what can be done!?!? I'd say yeah their are kids in Africa starving but the average american can't aford a plane ticket to Africa let alone discern the culture they are stepping into and that could be dangerous!.

A person is really in poverty when there soul is in poverty!. This means they don't ever think of anyone but themselves, they are hedonistic, narcisistic, and derive their confidence and wellbeing from a mind made self concept of how great they are!. To break this- which the majority of people are under- people need to stop what they are doing!. Stop what they are thinking and open their eyes to what needs done around them!. Is there an elderly person they could help!? Is there a child that needs tutoring!? Is there a little girl without parents that you could be a mentor to!? Is there a person you could even just smile at!?It's all of these things!.!. such great opportunities to help the world but people are choosing to walk around blind!. It's the insanity of mankind!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Simple - society wills it that way!. There are certain things that we all have in common (to an extent)!. We are a sociable people!. We rely on communication!. We thrive in groups - hence we are still tribal!. We want to fit into society!. We want to be accepted in a tribe!.

When you look toward Third World Countries, most of them are at civil war!. When the fighting ends, if it ends, and new tribes form with new alliances (sorry to sound so "Survivor" about it) then they will adopt ideals of their own!. Western civilization started with philosophizing!. That led to schooling!. Schooling led to knowledge and with knowledge comes a desire to know more!. Learning, either from rote material or from your own mistakes causes you to perceive the world in a certain way!. Perceptions can be changed when more is learned!.

At some point people learned that commerce is better than barter!. And so work was born!. People are by nature greedy and competitive - both very good things that sound negative!. If we were not greedy or competitive, we would never have gotten this far!.

Huts were better than caves!. Mud huts were better than grass huts!. Wood roofs were better that thatched roofs!. On and on until skyscrapers, airplanes, rockets, glass, metal, cement - all of these things were deemed better, more stable, maybe even more aesthetically pleasing!.

Now we a society of people who belong to a large tribe and part of that mentality is to "go to work, come home, and waste time"!. If we didn't do this, how would we be able to build better buildings, smarter cars, better programs, better computers, more ergonomic chairs to facilitate better work because people are more comfortable!? If we didn't have a routine as a whole society, how would we ever accomplish anything!?

Your wasted time is time spent by someone who said, "This could be better," and then made it so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because they are in a trance-like apathetic state!.
They simply do what is planned out for them, in order to make a decent living!.
Sure, they would like to go help out in the world, but they don't have the time and/or the money!.
Basically, they are trapped!.
They simply accept their own fate but yearn for the greater things in life!.
It's in that moment, when people have the certain almost random chance to make a difference, that is when change happens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Bennyboy - I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you are less than 20 years old and that you have done less than most to help the world!. Instead of focusing your attentions on what others "aren't" doing!. You could go out and do it!.

Right now it sounds like you're trying to influence others, like a drunk preacher yelling at his choir!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if the people who don't live well did the work for themselves we wouldn't be in this situation, it's not our responsibility to babysit the world!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
