First I will state that I think what he is trying to imply is that the uneducated may as well be considered dead!. I thought this was a very bold thing for him to say originally, but upon further reflection I began to question what his definition of education might be!. Aristotle wasn't the sort of compliant man who would think that some sort of rigid education structure would be the only way, if a way at all, to educate someone!. In fact, I think he could easily make a case to show how every person is somehow educated, and if he couldn't I am confident I could, of course this is riding on the unstated definition of educated!.

If there is this slipperiness of the word education, this statement is quite vague and Aristotle could manipulate his definitions in order to fit people under whichever category he wants!. Hence, this statement alone says very little if anything!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think the statement is invalid!. You can claim it either as a false dichotomy or a false analogy!. The false dichotomy is easier to prove, in a strictly logical sense!. Aristotle likens "education" to "life"!. However, life has only two values, alive or dead!. Education, on the other hand, has infinite values!. It is all one shade of gray!. Does a PhD in english literature make one more educated than one with an MS in chemical engineering!? Does a soldier who's been through every combat school in the military have more education than someone with a bachelor's degree!? As you can see, there are many, many levels of education that one can attain, from multiple sources!. To try and condense that to one of two values, educated or uneducated, is a false dichotomy!. Hence I disagree!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Educated people have a lot more things to worry about!. The more I study and the more I learn, the less educated I feel, because I realize how little I actually know about just about everything!. Uneducated people do not have this problem!.

Conversely, I know PhDs who are totally bewildered by things like wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, and two paperclips strung together!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't agree with Aristotle!. "Uneducated" people still have knowledge, and sometimes it is knowledge lacking in the "educated" that is required to keep society working!. I would say the uneducated are the pegs and the educated are the cogs!. Both are needed, both are important, and neither is worth more than the other!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I completely agree with above statement!.

the educated think and act completely opposite of those uneducated!.
mind you that the education I am talking about is not only from schools and universities!.
they act so differently it is almost as big as the difference between life and death; complete opposites if you will!.

Well it's a bit ironic!. Aristotle meant to show a great deal of difference between the educated and uneducated, which isn't exactly an accurate statement!. In my opinion, it is close but not quite as severe!. I get along with uneducated people just fine, then again I may just be uneducated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I learned about Aristotle in my first college english class!.!.!.
I think he's trying to express that if you aren't educated and don't have knowledge, you are merely existing, not living!. So therefore, your spirit is dead, but your physical body is alive!.!.!.
I agree with him!.!.so many people who drop out of HS or don't try to learn from others, never fully understand the meaning of life!.!.!.I love aristotle's work!.!.so amazing!.!.!.made me think of my life in a whole new dimension!.!.!.i also love Thoreau!.!.!.!!!! :)

Of course I agree!.
Uneducated means you are going through live a bit like watching a nice movie without hearing the audio!.
You see things happening but are not too sure of the why or the how!.
What's the point in having a brain if we don't make any use of its awesome powers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm inclined to believe that the educated will believe this statement and the uneducated will not!. I personally do not believe the statement because of the educated idiots I have met along life's pathway I have trod!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The dead has the same personality that they had when living, so there is no coorelation or validity in that statement!. The unedudcated can become educated but the dead can not return to motality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think education opens up doorways to enlightened thinking!. it's like another world!.Imagine not knowing the world of books! It would be like not living!Www@QuestionHome@Com
