I think true love is only really happening when one loves all beings equally!. This is the highest point of love I think, all diversions from this love I think just add elements of ego to them; selfishness!. I am not saying that this sort of love should be avoided or looked down upon, in fact I am not making any sort of value claim at all!. Love you have for your family, the one you have for your friends, the one you have for God,and the one you have for your significant other!.

You probably mean the one for your significant other!. It means caring for his/her well being!. also, in order to love someone else you need to love yourself!. It means to put your hands on fire for the one you love!. To do anything for that person even if it includes not being with that person!. It means, to mean happyness for that person!.
