Position:Home>Philosophy> Does this sound like a good life plan?Question: Does this sound like a good life plan!? I don't want to live a regular life!. That is!. Go to college to study something you hate, work a boring job just for the money, retire!. I was thinking of becoming active duty Marine right after high school!. I'm currently a junior!. After my service time is up I was thinking of becoming a Cop in my city of Philadelphia!. Do you think this would work!? or Do you think I'd forever be living in a bad apartment in a crappy neighborhood!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Peter, Two of my husband's nephews qualified and finished training as Navy Seals/ Special Forces!. They were recruited out of High School and both of them graduated in the top of their classes, both in school and in the military programs!. The last I heard they had excellent careers in law enforcement!. My son went in the Navy right out of High School and finished in the top of his class in some very high tech electronic courses!. He was assigned to a missile cruiser and after he finished his tour of duty (6 years) he found an excellent career with a firm that hired him based on his experience rather than a college degree!. My husband retired from the USAF after 22 1/2 years of service, He started as an aircraft mechanic and ended as a Senior Master Sergeant in the Teaching Academy!. He spent another 18 years as an insurance agent/owner before retiring a second time!. My son in law, on the other hand, did not go into the military!. He worked his butt off in college and excelled in the business field!. Today he is a global financial manager for a chemical firm and is well up the corporate ladder!. The point is--they all did what they loved!. It is probably not so much whether you go to college or go into the military as it is that you find that at which you excel and give it your all!. You sound like you are an idealist! Sometimes that can be despairing because you will know things can or should be better or different!. When you put the passion of ideaism into motion then you will take pride in finding and doing those things that make a difference! also, you might want to give yourself some time to develop your thoughts on where to best use your talents!. If in six or eight years you still feel Philadelphia tugging at you then you can decide then if that's the best choice!. One word of caution: Military recruiters are really salespeople! Be sure to check all your options and know what programs/classes you will be eligible for!. Their job is to convince you to join so give yourself some time to consider what they have to offer you!. They provide you with contrast to the things you like, and really work in collaboration with you, to see who you are and where you're at, by the feelings you have when thinking about them!. In short, you grow very much from experiencing them!. And because you're still experiencing them, means you have more to learn!. They won't go away out of you conciousness until you can extract everything that the world is trying to teach you!. There's not really anything like a "regular life", since the world is changing everyday!. And so are you!. And so are they!. Growing!. Constantly growing!.!.!. Anything you do in negative energy is probably not going to turn out as good as you imagined!. Your experience is not in the actions you make, but the feelings you think!. So no, I don't think you going to a particular route that you call "unusual" is going to make you as happy as you want to be!. You'll be unhappy wherever you go, unless you allow yourself to be happy once more!. The world isn't as bleak as you think!. Trust in the power of love~~~~ ha ha!. ha!. It depends on your cleverness and ingenuity and type of interests!. You can mold in any manner you like and also help others!. Being a Marine isn't regular!? Ask the guys who are cops or marines!
