The puppeteers are an analogy for irreducible nature and the shadows are the perceptions of that nature that our senses apprehend!.
Plato's allegory delves philosophically deeper then mere politics!.
His cave is an inquiry into how we can know what is real!.
His puppeteers are gods and the puppets are the true forms, the shadows they cast are all that we lowly humans, chained by our own sensory perception, can see!.
But to Plato there is the hint of truth that can be found in beauty!.
Plato was idealist and dualist!.
He argues that what humans sense is not true reality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you are referring to Plato's "the allegory of the cave", then the puppeteers are the government!. you have to take into account that during that time the government was in a state of general disarray because of the lack of people's rights!. the citizens were having small revolts against the government!. the allegory of the cave is basically an essay in which Plato is questioning what would happen if the government went so far as to control the citizens from birth and raise them thinking one way, expose them to another way, and then they will be so scared at the new ideas they will automatically accept the governments ideas without a shadow of a doubt!. its the equivalent of brainwashing by the government!. the cave representing a controlled environment, the puppets being the subjects, and sun being knowledge, darkness=ignorance and so on!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
