A life, at the time of conception, is in transition, growing into a human being!. That said, a fetus becomes a human being when it can sustain life outside of the host, ie, mother!. This happens between the second and third trimester!. A baby needs food and care which are provided by the parent(s)!. One of my brothers, who was born in 1956, at the end of 5 months gestation lived to be an adult!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I personally believe that life should be considered there, or at the start of its current existence, as soon as baby exits womb!.
Because beforehand, its entire existence can not be conceived!. At the moment of conceiving, the baby begins its real voyage!. Eyes open, and the world is seen, knowledge in great vastness presents itself!. The womb is dark factory, the building place for the baby!.
I don't correlate this belief with my beliefs on abortion!.

Unfortunately, totally unanswerable in today's world, and all answers must be subjective, but let's have an hypothesis!.
Assume that Life is a different form of energy from Matter, and that at a certain point in the development of the foetus the former animates the latter, and another 'soul' enters the world!. When woud that point be!?
The point of conception!? I think not - there isn't enough developed matter for a link to hold!. perhaps when the heart begins to beat!? I don't know enough about the development of the foetus to say here, but I suspect it would be sometime close to when there is enough brain matter to hold a charge!. Naturally, that would vary with the mother's health, the viability of the sperm (and its compatability) and maybe other factors!.
For INDEPENDENT Life to exists is a known stage, but I feel that the new soul has its stamp in the foetus long before that!.

For religions to claim "authority" over these sort of decisions is blatant nonsense, and so might the foregoing, but at our present stage of knowledge of Life, the Universe (and Everything), no-one can really tell you!.
My thought is to give the authority over the life of the foetus to the woman who is growing it!. All the father produced was one tiny sperm!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It begins right away when the sperm enters the ovum!. The formed cell is a potential human!. It's not like any living human cell!. It's supposed to form into a human being!. Once zygote is formed you can't tell the exact time when its brain can be considered a brain; there is a continuous soft transition!. When it comes to heart beat, I can't see what makes it special!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think once the brain starts working, because that's when the baby truly becomes 'self-aware' in a sense right!? (I'm obviously not sure whether it has a brain from the start, I don't remember that part of health class) If all it is is a little fish like alien creature when it's first growing, then sure it's a functioning life form, but so is a tree-- but does that mean the tree actually has a 'brain' or thinks about things other than things it needs to survive!? The cells, heart, and lungs may work, but if it's brain doesn't yet, then it doesn't truly have a spirit, or any sense of self, so it's not really alive until it has a brain, at least when you think about it!. Its sort of life as a sperm or an egg!. I know not quite technically speaking, but pretty close right!? When you look at it that way the question seems kinda silly!. Hell, since when is "life" the only important aspect anyway!? Aren't plants alive!? And we kill them right!? Aren't murderers alive!? And we kill them right!?
