Question: Why is it so much fun to tell people what to do on yahoo answers!?
I only sign on once every few months, but when I do I am fully capable of spending six hours at a stretch doing nothing but settin people straight!. You know, telling them what their problem really is and how they should solve it, etc!.

I feel that my advice is good, and they're asking for it so it's all in the game!. also, I'm trying to help them, and I'm always kind--never harsh or mean!. The problem is, I really, really like being right!.

Is this normal or is it obnoxious!? Should I be cultivating a softer way of walking in the world!?

I think Christians would say this is prideful, and I think the Dalai Lama would say that this is a form of control, which we should avoid!.

Isn't there a branch of philosophy that deals with straightforward, normal-life questions like this!?

It makes me feel intellectually superior to someone - and since I am certainly not physically superior to anyone - every little bit helps my self esteem!.

It makes us feel special when people reach out for advice and we feel we have the answer that can help them!.
Plus, fun is fun!. It's not like anyone is getting hurt!. Unless your telling someone to kill/hurt themself!. That's not cool!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Lol I don't really know what to say, but I agree!. What a cool thought, these are things you just don't notice!. I'm pretty sure everyone here is like that!.

Sometimes I sign on to Yahoo Answers so that I can post questions exclusively for the sake of allowing people something different to answer--because after all, it is a sport of Giving Advice!. I look at some of the responses to some of the questions, and I see lots of ill-thought reactions, lots of Stock answers, and I-get-the-credit-for-somebody-else's- work postings!. Sometimes I post answers that are incorrect in order to make the questioner really think about the question they are asking!. It's all just a big game, and you can tell the player who thinks that winning is about getting the most points, the player who thinks that winning is about being uppity and know-it-all-ish, and the player who wants to make sure people are having fun (as well as making sure they let others have fun)!. And no, I don't think that it is prideful, and I think it is only controlling if you act controlling while doing it!. Remember, you are as much helping people make better decisions as you helping them to have fun!. This is no more sinful than medication(used properly)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
