Question: Do You Know About The Trial of Socrates!?
I have a Philosophy exam tomorrow and I am going over some essay questions and there is one that I don't know the correct answer for sure!.

Critically discuss Socrates' response to the charge that he corrupts the young by doing the following:

1!.)Explain Socrates' response to this charge!.
2!.)Discuss the ways in which you think Socrates' response is adequate and/or not inadequate and why!.

Defend with reasons!

Can anyone help me out!?

I might ask other questions concerning Philosophy so if you know any of this stuff, stick around! Thank you so much!

I believe the main thing here was that socrates asked melitus "If i corrupt the young who improves them!?" and melitus couldnt answer therefore socrates shows that melitus doesnt even know what hes talking about and cannot really charge him for something which he doesnt understand!. he points out that a large group of people, made up from average athenians, doesnt really know how to improve a young man!. the analogy is that horses arent bread by everyone, only one person does so, the horse breeder!.!.!.

this is rough but it should get you there!.!.!.hope it helps!.

was this his reference to the gadfly thing!? if so, i know the answer!. if not, ignore the following!.

1) I am the gadfly that stings Rome into life with m;y questions!. (and what do we do with gadflys!? kill them!. look what happened to Socrates!.) this may not be the exact words, but it's the general gist!.

2) i think it is adequate because the fate of the common gadfly is similar to Socrates (hatred and premature death)Www@QuestionHome@Com
