Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: This will probably get some bad ratings, but because of my own beliefs and the nature of this question, I can only answer from a certain Christian perspective!. The soul (Hebrew ''nephesh'') is a composite of material and immaterial; flesh and spirit!. A child does not *have* a soul, but *is* a soul!. According to modern Christian philosophy, once a child is formed inside a test tube, God is then obligated, out of His own integrity, to create a new spirit and infuse the child with that spirit!. No being --- no plant, animal, human, etc --- can truly live without a spirit!. Humans have individual spirits, and are individual souls, but plants, animals, etc all share the same common spirit (see the Book of Ezekiel)!. I don't remember exactly how this goes (it's been a long time), but the human spirit is, in some way, connected to that common spirit, which is shared by all living things, but also to the Divine (man was created in the image and likeness of God)!. The baby is the result of the interaction of the combined DNA!. The mother is purely a food source and protection during growth!. The idea of a baby being totally made outside of the womb is quite feasible!. The only 'life' interaction of a parent is required after the baby has gained communication!. You won't find anything here, outside of people who don't know who have been imbued with a certain mindset and think themselves intellectuals!. You can tell by the little flame that appears above their head!. If not flame, no soul, and the child is cursed for the rest of their life!.
